  2. Thats really sad to hear. I hate living in Pataskala. My apt complex always has the cops out either breaking up a domestic violence or drug busts. I hate this town.

One of the comment from the story: "I caution you not to make assumptions that this is related to custody and/or visitation.I know the family personally. He was in 6 figure debt to numerous creditors who recently began pressing legal action against him."

Self destruction is really an interesting topic to research. I'm currently reading The Lucifer Principal "The Lucifer Principal" and it applies Darwin's theory to society and social groups. It says that the groups survival is more important than the individual and that mother nature is a bitch (basically). When an individual feels like they are a burden to their society, they go into self destruct mode. It even explains murder-suicides because the man of the house didn't want to leave a "burden" behind just because he 'failed'.

    Interesting Wrillo.

  3. . Usually there are MPs everywhere! .
Yeah but they are at gates and driving around. It isn't like there is one with in an arms distance away all the time.
I hate to ask this, but why the hell are the FBI, ATF, and local police and SWAT there? This is a military base. Shouldn't the military be handling it? I'm not trying to start shit or anything like that. I'm genuinely curious.
Something like this probably falls under the federal level, I mean higher than the army. Might also be some form of checks and balances so they army just sweep something under the rug. A second set of eyes if you will.
Doesn't the Army have an investigative unit?

Yeah, Criminal Investigation Unit, CID. I'm sure they are there, whether the papers reported it or not. Anything serious, and CID is there.

The shooter or shooters were US soldiers....:nono:
Pretty sad. It's funny though, I actually felt safer in Iraq than I do walking down alleys in Cbus at night.

What else is it? He just went crazy and hated his "co-workers"?

"U.S. Senator Kay Bailey Hutchison of Texas told FOX news: "I do know that he has been known to have told people that he was upset about going (to Iraq)"

He was scared to go probably. It's amazing what some people will do to get out of a deployment. I have never seen someone go this far, but they do come up with some crazy shit.

    A) if some of these goobers carried rifles around all the time, there would be a lot more lost rifles

    B) even when we have rifles, you get the ammo at the range and nowhere else. brass and ammo check after each range.

    C) with the army suicide rate as it is, part A and B probably provide for a safer environment altogether.

also, as a side, i personally have ammo for all my weapons systems (rifle, MG, beretta) here in iraq, and i have my 9mm and 2 loaded mags on me at all times, so theres a stark contrast between a hostile country base and a domestic base. on some of the smaller outposts, you roll with a magazine in the weapon, no round chambered. hope this sheds a little light for the non military folks.

    Exactly.

They said he had two handguns. Anyone with their CCW knows how easy it is to conceal a handgun. On army bases you are aloud to have and keep privately owned weapons on base. But, they must be registered and be okayed by the commander ( don't remeber if its base or unit.) You also have to be a certain rank, don't know what rank. I also believe if you go to the range with it, you have to have everything okayed beforehand. How many shots can you get off in 15 seconds? 15 seconds with TWO handguns is a long time. He was also at the processing center where deploying soldier are at. That means there could have many as many as 300 people or more in one small area. So him having loading handguns on base, concealed and be able to kill 12 people before anyone could do anything is not that hard to swallow. It is very sad though. My condolences to the families.

  4. Has this recently changed? Jagr and I looked at this last year and it wasn't all Applebees locations. Golden Corral was packed though!!!

This is what the site says: "Available during business hours on November 11, 2009 at participating Applebee’s only. Dine-in from limited menu only. Beverages and gratuity not included. Veterans and active duty military simply show proof of military service. "

I didn't see a list of participating locations. So I'm not exactly sure. You could always call ahead and find out.

  5. You need to look back at a little more history. The military has historically been underpaid and yet it still survives. People serve for a variety of reasons not necessarily monetary compensation.

Yes, very true. I didn't join for the money. But at that rationale, we'd still have slaves.

  6. I'm thankful everyday for the sacrifices the vets have made - so I'm not going to debate that with you.

I think you have a skewed view on what is 'deserved' though. If we had the money, sure - but we don't. And you mention all the other stuff we spend money on (Federal level examples btw, not state ones, but I digress) that you disagree with. Ok, so according to you, instead of fixing the other problems we throw money at unjustly, we should go ahead and throw more money at stuff?

That's like your wife buying a Coach purse that you can't afford and deciding that, well if she doesn't care about putting us in debt, you go out and buy a Porsche - furthering your debt issue. When you should've just talked to your wife and voiced your disapproval so she'd either take it back, or not buy another one.

Especially considering this is a 'bonus', not an amount that people go into the service banking on a check from the Ohio State Government. If you voted for this, then you shouldn't be upset about the golden parachutes the TARP bailout money gave to their execs. They deserved it afterall. Sure, the monetary value was different, but it's the same concept.

So, I understand from the emotional side why people voted 'Yes' for this, we need to show the veterans we honor their duty and sacrifice, but gov't shouldn't be emotional, it should be rational and economical.

I don't need the car, she doesn't need the purse. I personally know many vets that need this money. We don't need railcars, but that hasn't stopped them from trying to push those. If we don't treat our vets better, we are going to severely hurt our military and not have one.

And I think you'll find that you might get some pushback on that. For MANY people, charity and church are a way of life.

You are right, I thought that after I said it, but it is because of the vet they can donate to charity and church.

  7. Is this how you would manage your own money too? Just asking... you'd go into (more) debt to donate to a charity/church/cause of choice?

It's because of the vet you can even get on this board, or go ride your bike. You don't think they deserve it? How about we get rid of shit we don't need that we spend money on, like bailing out GM or giving money to acorn. Go up to a vet and tell him, hey thanks for serving, I know you lost your buddies, missed your kid being born, missed her growing up, slept i n a foxhole, cried when you read your letter from your wife sprayed with perfume because you didn't know if you'd see her again, thanks for all that, but Im going to set you up for failure. How'd you sleep last night? Warm and cozy in your bed? Safe? Did you get a hot meal?

This isn't a charity or church. This is your way of life.

  8. Oh my God...... what the hell is this? Logic? On Ohio Riders?

    What? Where? SHOW ME!!!

Whore. And I mean that with all due respect. And it is in no way intended to be sexual in nature.

Great now everything we say is going to have a disclaimer with it.

I didn't mean this in whatever way you thought I meant it if it the way you thought I meant it could get me in trouble.

  9. For some reason, watching humans suffer doesn't bother me, but seeing animals mistreated really does.

Actually, seeing animals mistreated makes me really want to go cause some human suffering of my own.

I think it's because we have these big, over-evolved forebrains. I feel like that renders us fairly unique in the animal kingdom, and carries some ethical responsibility. When we kill our food, we should try to minimize its suffering because we have the brainpower to understand that it does suffer. Other animals have no such capability.

So, I agree, we should be doing more about the treatment of food animals in this country. Cost and production efficiency should not be allowed to trump our ethical responsibilities as the smartest species on Earth.

And it's true that enforcing more-humane treatment of food animals would drive up prices, but that could entail a side benefit: Maybe we Americans might be motivated to eat more vegetables and fewer fucking Baconators, and stop being the biggest gang of fatasses in human history.

    Mmmmm Baconators.

Oops I got distracted. Time for more coffee. :p

You know, we don't really agree on politics, and that's where I end up seeing post of your posts, but I am going to have to give you rep for that. I would only give you +.5 if I could  because we need meat to stay healthy, hence the different kinds of teeth. But since I can't do that, +1 to you. Never thought I'd give you rep  haha

edit: It wouldn't let me sign it.

  10. On issue 1: I would rather see us go in debt further supporting the military and vets rather than on some of the other stupid shit we spend on. I also add that I feel this way not because I am a vet but because I am an American Patriot.

    That being said:

How do I get my check?

  11. hey man i have ate dog....im Phillipine....a person dont eat something cuz it tastes bad do they?....i swear it tastes better than chicken beef pork or whatever!!!!!

If I had a pet chicken or pig maybe I'd feel differently. But my dog will stand between me and a threat til the threat is gone or she has given everything to protect me and my own. I like dogs too much to eat them.
