  1. Ok...I re-read. I think you were just saying that if you were measuring the RPMs of the camshaft it would be half the RPMS the crank is spinning at... Agree. The way you were saying it made it sound like you were saying the tachometer on my motorcycle or car was actually showing the camshaft revolutions.

  2. Dweez...if your tach isn't measuring your crank speed but rather the cam speed than what is it measuring on a 2-stroke??????

Edit: I really hope I'm misreading your previous posts and you aren't claiming that the crank shaft is spinning at twice the speed my tach shows...

  3. Layman terms:

Big Bang fired #1 and #3 at the same time. #2 and #4 at the same time...

R1 is a stepped type process. Almost like #1, #3, #2, #4. If you looked at a cross cut, it would look like steps to a house...

Not sure the exact order, but they are close and almost the same, but not. The Big Bang motors were really used in the 500 GP era...

The R1 style firing order allows the bike to be more civil under load and out of corners... Big Bang basically prevented or toned down the rear stepping out under load on those fire breathing 500cc two strokes...

Ok, I guess more of my question was related to what the actual firing order in degrees (ref. 720 deg.) would be for a big bang on an inline 4. I wasn't sure whether two pistons would be firing at once or if they would fire 90 apart. :dunno:

    So instead of 0, 180, 360, 540 or 0, 0, 360, 360 it would be 0, 90, 360, 450  Does this make any sense? haha

  4. It never was stated as being a big bang motor. A lot of ill informed people were and are saying that it is, but not true at all. I think, however, it is going to be the top dog this year and the only competition is going to come from the GSXR and Honda after.

Can you give the specifics of the difference between the crossplane and big bang? I've read a little but haven't put it all together. Can the crossplane be made into a big bang with a change in valve and ignition timing?

  5. I've got a great story from a Daytona AMA race a few years ago that I was involved in. Funnier when told in person of course....

John Jacobi was racing in the 200 and needed a pit crew. Reuben (35Motorsports) and I ended up being the entire crew.

Reuben spent a couple of days in the garage making an ex-Vesrah endurance bike into a 200 bike while I watched. I probably swapped tires a coupel of times and put in some new brake pads, but that's all I did.

On race day, we're pitted right next to Duhamel and Honda. Miguel comes in for his first pit, the bike is swarmed by pit workers - two tires, gas and out in 15 seconds or so.

Jacobi comes in for his first stop. I'm standing there with the battery operated impact for the axles (Honda uses the high zoot air impacts) and John cruises right past me. Doh! We run past Honda and push him backwards to the pit. I pull the axles out, Reuben slams the new rims in and I replace the axles. Splash of gas and gone.

Only took about 2 minutes and 45 seconds:D

Jacobi blows outta the pits and I look over at the Honda crew - they're staring at us in disbelief like we're a bunch of noobs.

The rest of the pits weren't all that much faster, but Jacobi did pretty well that day with a 15th place or so. Not bad considering who he had working for him.

So, I too have AMA level experience. Doesn't make me fast though.:(

    Great story E!

I have a similar story involving an ARCA race. My dad is good friends with the brother (and crew chief) of a driver in the series, and we were invited to the pits. Of course we both wore shorts b/c it was hot as hell in Atlanta and we didn't know any better. I ended up wearing the driver's pants and my dad ended up wearing his crew chief's so we could stay in the pits. We even got to help push the car onto the grid (well I pushed the oil warmer/compressor thing). My dad has one job to do during the pit stop and that was to hand the window cleaner to a crew member so he could clean the windshield. My dad was so excited he turned around and was talking to me as the car rolled up and they were yelling for the window cleaner.:lol: I think we probably cost them a second or two that stop..

  6. He has since purchased the tools he needs to do that specific job. It went a lot smoother. I was just being a smart ass.

His car is a 5 speed. I like the stereo the best. 200 watt' date=' 8 speaker Monsoon system. Sounds awesome!![/quote']

The stereo system is nice minus the radio reception. I replaced my antenna and still haven't tracked down the reason why I'm getting almost no reception. :(

  7. I did his timing belt at 90k with zero 'special tools.' He took it to ECS tuning and they told him the timing was dead on. 'Special tools' are for 'special mechanics!!'

:cheers:for getting it without the tools! Lots of VW dealers can't even do them right with the tools! I hope his is a manual though b/c 90k is way over the service interval for an auto.

edit: The tools make the job super easy though...even if it makes me 'special'

  8. A good friend of mine bought a 2000 Jetta TDI new and now has over 200' date='000 miles on it. It has been a fantastic car. I looked into picking up one and nobody lets them go cheap. If you didn't pay Blue Book you did a good job. They don't come cheap.[/quote']

I searched for a couple months, paid close to KBB and still had to drive to Indy to buy it...yeah they don't come cheap or easy. I sort of screwed up b/c I thought it had a 100k mile timing belt instead of an 80k. I bought it with 79k and spent my first month buying several hundred in tools and parts to change the Tbelt. :( Tell your buddy I have all the tools if he needs his done...

  9. Sure' date=' and you can do that comfortably. That is the point I'm trying to make. If you can afford it, then go for it. Many people do that. I go through motorcycles like I'm on a mission but I never lose money doing it. I don't always make the profit I'd like to but I'm not in it to make money. I like buying and selling bikes. I just didn't like doing it for a living.[/quote']

I go through motorcycles like underwear too...haha. I'm 24 and have had 7 different cars and 9 motorcycles/dirt bikes. :nono:
