bitches ain't got nothin on me
Seriously, where do you find this shit?
-
good looking out man....
78 between Glouster and ringgold was wonderful though!
-
wanna go today??? it's really not that bad out....
I would stay away... I went yesterday, almost every corner is covered is sand. Not just little either, thick like you can't see the yellow lines or white lines...
We need a good rain storm now.
(ride report in the columbus section, if you want all the nitty gritty details)

Ride Report:
(not sure if you guys do those here, but oh well)
Roster:
Just me, Pauly scared everyone off
Route:
204E, 668S, 93E, 216E, 78NE to Ringgold, 555N, 669NW, 256/204E
Mileage: 161mi
Notes:
The roads had standing water in spots, and some had some nice sand/salt debris. Good ride overall, really helped me focus on smooth throttle control and being flexible with my lines due to water and gravel. Was sliding a couple times...
204: Passed a cop, a cager was nice enough to give the old headlight flash warning. Also passed one of those 3 wheeled can-am spyder(yellow) things, my first time seeing one in person.
668S: was fun, hit some traffic, instead of trying to pass everyone the bulk of the time I pulled off for a minute and 'surfed the gap'. Probably about 50/50 dry and wet.
78: Made the entire ride worth it! 90% of it was bone dry, with no debris! No traffic either. FYI: There is a new nasty pot hole, north bound lane after the back to back 15mph corners, if you are tight on the double yellow line setting up your next turn, you should be fine.
555: A complete disaster. Stay away, or don't go below 37 on it. Pavement was in good shape, but every corner was covered in sand. Not just a little either, the entire road way... Often the lines were not even visible. It was tough to keep the old SRs in check in this section.
The peusdo slab home on 256/204 got a little cold.
Anyway got home about 3:00pm and got the bike hosed down and the chain cleaned and lubed.
Here are a couple lame cell phone pics of my muddy bike at the A&B station on 555, and my dumb forehead by the 555 sign.

I agree much much better than tennis shoes! I guess I am kind of a gear stickler... I always wear my full boots (currently sidi b2). I leave my dress shoes at work, and put flip flops in the back pack when I go to meet people.
When I was kid I watched my mom put a dirt bike peg through her calf (wearing tennis shoes, trying to hill climb), thus my boot enforcement....
-
Dood... just gets some full coverage boots. Fuck that shit. Kinda a waste IMO

Accidents have nothing to do with group rides or people on Ohio Riders. They happen, and usually because of people screwing around or riding above their head. That's all I'm saying.
The following has nothing to do with OR, it is just a general statement:
It is my personal belief that POORLY organized and structured group rides can exacerbate the root causes of crashes, such as inexperience, ego aka pushing harder than you should, putting to much faith in the rider in front of you, deciding to ride on worn tires, etc....
Group rides also can provide a level of safety above solo riding if done correctly.

Made me look... I see that, WV 7.
what about WV route 2 right on the other side of the river from Ohio route 7?
I could see it on the other side, and it looked like it had all the elevation changes, while the Ohio side was dirt flat.
Route is, well different, some parts aren't bad, but it tends to go through little WV hill towns with traffic lights etc...
-
I've ridden Route 7 from Stuebenville to Marietta early in 2008. Flat river road, it varies from two lane to four lane divided. Some pavement not so good. Fairly easy road. Lots of state highway patrol on parts of it.
It's a sight seeing road along the river.
I'm originally from that area.... I can vouch for the patrol. I have been pulled over there a few times. It is 50 or 55(can't remember), but they mean it!!!

I guess I'm a little late on this thread. Back when I had an SV, I had a high mount scorpion. Scorpion, isn't not the best make, but I appreciated the high mount. If you are into track riding, the stock pipe can drag... Although if you are more into sport touring, the high mount kind of rules out saddle bags.

Yeah, big groups are normally bad news. I'm normally an advocate of splitting into sub groups with leaders based on skill level. Then everyone recollecting at the major stops.
Isaac's Papa, you have admit you were pretty scared on that last big "parade ride" and the pace was pretty pedestrian.... (excluding speedy triples wild ride home) Thus I'm not sure if big group ride incidents are really indicative of the safety of individuals from a crew...

Yes' date=' bring your hats!! You'll need something to hide your cocaine in.[/quote']
Great, now I'm probably stuck riding with you two douche bags all summer again, due to all this wonderful banter.
-
Ok' date=' ok... I'll spill the beans. Eric is a very safe rider that can rail when he wants to and ride moderately when he has to.
Better?[/quote']
I was just messing with you, you didn't need tell lies.
-
Hahahahaha!! You are such a fucking liar!! Nice try' date=' though.[/quote']
Great.... thanks I will be riding alone again now....
-
Be careful out there! Lots of salt, sand, debris, etc will still be on the road. Just cruise for safety. That stuff will eat your rings on your chain too.
I like to wait for a nice few heavy rains before the 1st ride. Which can be end of Feb or 1st of March.
Thanks for the heads up, I normally hose the bike down, clean and lube chain after winter rides.
-
Since I'm new here, I'm not sure how you guys post rides....
Anyway rumor has it it might get up 52 on Sat. Thus I'm planning on riding if anyone wants to ride with me.
Leave from Super America on 256 just south of 70. 10:00am meet for 10:30 departure. Late start due to cold temp in morning.
Potential route is:
204E, 668S to somerset.
Option A: 669/555
Option B:668/13
Then turn around, or if we are feeling frisky finish the 13/555 loop using 78.
I'm up for other suggestions also... I also would be down for a shouter ride if folks are not looking for a 4 hour ride...
The pace will be relaxed since there will be unexpected wet spots with the melting snow, and new pavement could be torn up due to snow removal.
-
I also wear the alpine stars gp plus currently, one of the better gloves I have owned...
-
In general I could care less what the name of the group I ride with is called, or what board I post to, as long as it is the same good riders and good people.
Core may have fallen off a bit but even today they seem to be able to keep a few core values/ fundamentals:
- Stress proper riding gear
- The base ideas of "the pace". There are some fast mofos over there, but everyone encourages to ride YOUR pace, the crew will be waiting at every stop sign or turn off. No one ever gets ridiculed for being slow.
- The better riders are more than willing to slow down to help teach slower riders.
- Track riding is strongly encouraged.
- The social aspect is down, but almost everyone posts up when they are going to do a serious ride. Thus if you are willing to make the commute, there is a ride to join almost every weekend during 'the season'
The above is just my experience, *other personal results may vary.

Yeah 555, isn't bad at all. I thought the northern section was even in pretty good shape near the end of summer. The only issue I have with it is that is it isn't much of a secret, I usually end up fighting my way past piles of bikes and traffic...
-
I really only know 3 active Columbus core folks, and they aren't normally down for the 9am Bolivar run, to meet the Northern folks..
-
Wow.. a core take over eh? Yeah the group is mostly Northern folks. To ride with them, I often have to meet them North East, which I don't mind at all since they are good riders, and fun to be around..
-
That's alright. So is Eric....
Great, now everybody knows I'm slow
-
thanks for the invite, I'll get a good pic up soo
-
post pics!
Here is a quick cell phone pic of the rr in garage.
Commuters: Do you use a backpack or some kind of bike cargo?

I use a Ogio No drag back pack for commuting. It easily fits my lap top and other junk. I can even fit all my softball gear in the summer with my laptop (glove, cleats, jersey, shorts, etc..)
I use a icon tank bag as a tail bag for sport rides. (bungee corded under the pillion seat). It easily holds a second visor, snacks, a water, tire gauge, map, cell phone, wallet, keys, etc...)
