  1. I would agree with the check with the ridersdiscount folks or you can always check ebay. I had good luck recently with a pair of Sidi vertigos with only a bit of plastic ground off for $80. The Iron Pony deal is good if they have your size and your okay with the colors. Hoblick is great so if he has something you like ask him.

  2. May be interested myself. I need to check at work (we have special requirements when we register to volunteer / ride since we are a primary sponsor). May have upgraded exhaust by then but it will still have a silencer (Delkevik). Do know some basic bike repair as well (tires, slipped chain's) and have some bags for the SV so should be able to load up some basic supplies / tools. Ill post back within a few days if I am able and after I register as a volunteer.

  3. Now that I've looked into it I'm liking these pants that convert to shorts.

Anyone have an opinion on Tri-tex 600 material as far as slide resistance?

I have a similar pair by Olympia... they don't flow as much air as I would like but okay. The Olympia use codura instead. If you assumed those xelement are just standard 600 denier polyester with a flashier name you can see the info below from motorcycle.com. so probably a bit better than their 500 denier sample so better than jeans. If the stitching is poor then none of the info below means much.

Tear and Abrasion Strength by the numbers Pounds of force until fabric tears Abrasion cycles on pavement until fabric fails

CottonJeans 4.5 pounds to tear 50 cycles to failure

70 Denier Standard Nylon 4.5 pounds to tear 165 cycles to failure

500 Denier Polyester 8 pounds to tear 180 cycles to failure

200 Denier Standard Nylon 7.5 pounds to tear 275 cycles to failure

500 Denier Cordura 22 pounds to tear 710 cycles to failure

620 Denier Cordura 35 pounds to tear 1200 cycles to failure

NEW Competition Grade Leather 80-110 pounds to tear 1200-1700 cycles to failure

1000 Denier Cordura 110 pounds to tear 1780 cycles to failure

Air Mesh Kevlar 1260 pounds to tear 970 cycles to failure

Stretch Kevlar Blend 420lbs pounds to tear 1800 cycles

There is also this test from a while back:

    Drag Test

"For the Drag Test, samples were stitched to a bag that held a 75-pound sandbag inside a milk crate, then dragged behind a pickup truck..."

    New, 100% Cotton Denim Jeans ----------------------- 3' 10"

    Senior Balistic Nylon ----------------------------------- 3' 10"

    Leather, Lightweight, Nude Finish, 2.25 oz/sq. ft. --- 4' 3"

    Leather, Fashion Weight, 1.75 oz/sq ft. ------------- 4' 4"

    Two-year-old 100% Cotton Denim Jeans ------------ 4' 5"

    Cordura Nylon Type 440 ----------------------------- 18' 3"

    Kevlar 29 Aramid Fiber, Style 713 ------------------ 22' 1"

    Leather, Competition Weight, 3 oz/sq. ft. -------- 86' 0"

  4. i took the MSF before buying a bike to make sure it was something i could and would want to do. the i had a lot of parking lot time before hitting the streets.

+1 again on the MSF. took mine well before getting my bike and am glad I did. Funny I still think the low speed stuff they have you do in the BRC is harder than riding with any speed but must know info none the less. Plus if you drop their bike it doesn't matter lol.

Even though I didnt drop the MSF bike I learned from the people who did... like you know its a good idea to make sure you put down the kickstand

  5. I've got a KBC VR and it's nice, but the Bell Star is probably hands down the nicest I've ever put my head in.......aaaaand, here come the jokes :D

Seriously though, I get just a bit of buffeting at speed with the KBC - but none with the Star........haven't had it much over a 100 but so far I'm thrilled with it - hope this helps

Ill second the star being a nice lid and can be found cheap on motorcycle closeouts (199 or 299 for the RS1) its so much lighter than a cheapo and the transitions shield is great. With the chin deflector out or even with it in you still get a fair amount of wind noise but not horrible. Still wear buds or plugs when its a long ride or fast. Far quieter than the cheap leaky POS scorpion I had first and way lighter. It also has good airflow with the vents open but that does increase the noise.

  6. I know you made the purchase but wanted to throw an alternative out there for others considering the same.

Considered one of these internal visor lids but ended up with a Bell Star and added the SOLFX Transitions shield ... Best thing ever. Super fast change to dark and no fiddling with it. The star was so much more comfortable to me than scorpions and lighter. The transitions shield fits a bunch of the bell helmets.

More manufacturers really should get on the transition shield path it is such a great idea.

  7. I was recently in the same debate. I went with an SV as it seemed a bit more versatile overall as far as upgrades parts and such. Big thing to consider (assuming you go with a sv650s or sf) is the clipons versus bars on the 650r. You will have a more upright position with the 650r than the sv650 although you can change the SV or have bars with an older naked SV. Both seem great, both have good followings. So far the SV has been a great first bike very glad I went the 650 route instead of starting on a 250 or 500. I honestly think whichever you get a good deal on you will be happy. Do get sliders to protect that plastic though (mine was pre dropped so scratched but not cracked, doing touchup and slider install as soon as the parts and paint arrives, hopefully today and Saturday).

  8. Thanks for the tire mount and install. Was outstanding you came out and did it here instead of me driving in the snow on dead tires. Great work, on time, beyond fair pricing. You deserve to succeed with your business.

+++ Highly recommended if you need anything Shop Dog Cycles can help you with.

    Thanks again,

Only one somewhat blurry pick so far lol. Need some sun and to get my good camera out.

Hopeful that the weather is decent on Sunday and this upcoming week for some practice and pics that are better than the poor sad corner of my garage.
