  1. the mladin/spies days are in no comparison to the rules/bikes that are currently being used in AMA Superbike.  1.25's were clicked off by a few guys last year for sure.  Previous years/rules/spec tires/ etc. need not apply to the current rules packages.  The classes top times have obviously slowed over the change in rules/ spec fuel/ spec tires.  And yes, if 600 expert points is all it takes to race in Superbike, then the rules have definitely changed from the 100 advancement points needed in Daytona Sportbike originally.  Before you had to ride that class and earn the points to be eligible to step up to superbike.  Pegram is currently the benchmark for anyone from Ohio, he's been our golden boy for years.  It would definitely be awesome to see Ryan take over that honor!

the original thread was about fast laptimes, didnt realize they had to be under any current rules packages when i was making some comparisons.

much like the 132 you said you did at mid ohio , how long ago was that and under what rules package ?

too much keyboard racin goin on here , got the real deal to do startin in the a.m.

    have a good one

    gerry

  2. 1.25 yes, under, nooooo. Pegram ran only a couple tenths under 1.27 last year. I will be extremely glad to see another local guy break into the front this year... but so far Larry is it.  And I mean no disrespect. The times I was seeing from Ryan were the 1.31's in Supersport last year. I'm guessing they changed eligibility rules if he's on the 1000 this year. Good luck this weekend, BTW..

i never said pagram or ryan were doing under 127. our testing times are generally always faster than race times do to being able to make more set up changes  than time at a race allows. you need to look thru the ama archives  for laptimes so you will be better informed .ck the spies/ mladin era for 1;23 1;24 pretty sure hayes did 125 last year , pegram is not the benchmark.  he is chasing the the aliens as we are.

also ryan went out and earned his superbike license in a couple weekends this spring by accumulating the required 600 points running expert races . no eligibility changes or guessing , just hard work and dedication.

and be clear last years mid ohio round was the worst track conditions ever,  on tues they sealcoated 1/2 the corners on the track and sat had off and on rain . ryan and larry have both led ama pro races at mid-ohio and should be touted as local heros for leading the best competition their respective sports have to offer.

they are heroes in my book !

  3. lol, I think pegram's the only local guy capabel of those times... Kerr is in the .31's last I knew. and 27's on a 1000 is dumb fast even top ama superbike

in fact 1;30 on 600 spec tires

and the fast 1000 times at mid ohio are 1;25 and under

    on spec tires

in the days of open tires they ran in the 1;23

    un disputable facts

  4. proud to say AMA PRO RACINGS newest and youngest superbike rider will be at MID -O shaken dwn our B bike for the Road America round coming up at the end of the month.

    stop by and say high

  5. untill cbs / ama does a release stating so, it is the same rumors we have heard for months.

Don't get me wrong its a great package, but not real till it comes from the horses mouths.

There has not been live ama roadracing coverage , except for daytona since the 90's.so what a huge step in the right direction.

I know live tv would help our program dramatically.

It is something we can actually sell.

    nice , great news

  7. IMO the win on Sunday sell on Monday business model is stale...no dead. The internet and the ability to reseach comparisons or current models is vastly superior to buying the model that won on Sunday. Why, for many buyers the first thing we are going to do is dump the can and intake to make the air flow and map the fuel. So we research performance after the mod.

Second, unlike when this business model started a long time ago the racing bikes are no longer slightly modified stock bikes. They have completely reworked engines, shocks, brakes, etc. What remains stock? the frame? Informer buyers recognize this fact and know they are not buying the bike that was raced.

IMO if Ducati wants to increase sales they should incentivise new dealerships to grow their distribution network. Do they even have a dealership in Cincinnati? Not that I know of, the closest that I know of is in Indy. The distance is a consideration for me when considering a new bike. Ducati has brand recognition and a strong base of loyal customers so build on that!

But to agree with you yes I wish they would contribute to growing the road racing comunity and viewership.

you would be suprised how stock the bikes are in supersport and dsb.

frankly superbike is very watered down compared to the exotics of the 1990's. and the showroom bikes are very good these days to the point that an ama pro with some skills can take a showroom bike, add some tires and

and could just about make the qualifiing cut in ss, dsb

  8. The scary part is that 5 of the top ten were Ducati... You had George, Rossi, Marq, Pedrosa and Crutchlow... then all Ducati... Crazy.

but how many seconds back ?( the ducs)

dovi 's enthusism couldnt keep him in the lead group , nicky will ride safe and the rest will be 10 sec back ,including spies, and he will tired quickly of being on his head like rossi did.

if lorenz was on a honda he would never be beaten , the only thing he is missing is that honda engine package.

i dont think a duc will win a moto gp race in the next 3 years.

had alot of talent on them with lackluster results . sadly i think it will be the end of nicky's career this year.

  9. obviously a race team would have a poor ROI but why not support the series by being a broadcast partner, which at the same time would not amount to much more in costs than a media /commercial assault would cost .

franlky it would not cost anymore than the money they are spending at the cheesecake stuff they do at the indy round and i am sure they will do at cota.

those are two races in a series they already have a huge presence in

    and a european based series.

not where they are making their profits.

so apparently the u.s. buyers are paying the bills for european racing series and yet those same customers do not have any support from said oem to help in the survival of racing in their own back yards.

maybe the u.s. customers need to wake up and smell whats cookin

  10. not to pick at you brian,

but why does ducati who is a oem who sells mostly all sport /adventure bikes and has made record profits and record sales in the u.s. in the past few years, not step up as all the other oem s have in the past, and foot the bill to get ama pro racing on tv.

heck it would be nice if they would even support pro racing in any form in the u.s. .

their amatuer contingincy is applaudable but in reality they know they are not going to pay much out since there are not too many on the grids to begin with.

if they had some presence in the ama paddock or on tv they might be able to re-juvinate the old win on sun , sell on monday.

but they seem to be content in taking profits but not giving back to the u.s. racing community.

the other oem 's have more than given their fare share over the years.

frankly bmw is no better or maybe worse , they too are reaping huge sales in the u.s. and not spending much to do it.

what insight can you give as a dealer rep on these questions.

i guess my thinking is if they do not want to step up and be part of the solution , then they are just another one of the problems.
