  1. I've considered a Shorai but NEO Ducati doesn't recommend them for the 1098s. They've seen a lot of failures and/or poor lifespans on them.  Might have to try in the Monster next time around.

     

    Hmmm. I used the 12 cell Shorai. I know their website usually says that the 8 cell will work but I know in my experience it wears out just as fast as the standard lead acids. I do know that they don't like cold. If the temp is below 55F I just leave the lights on for a couple of minutes in the morning to warm the battery up with the current flow. 

     

    If it is a heat issue, the header from my rear cylinder is about six inches away from the battery box. No problems yet. I mainly did it because I don't want to have to replace the sprag clutch due to a weak battery.

  2. 15000 mile service on the Monster and 1098.  New tires on the trailer. New tires on both bikes. bought my husband fancy frame plugs for father's day.  Now installing new chain, sprockets and carrier on the Monster.  Forks on both bikes are leaking AGAIN.  So we need to figure out why that keeps happening.  Both were done by GMD Computrak Atlanta and I even had him reinspect my forks for some kind of damage and he doesn't see anything so I'm not sure what is going on there. 

     

    Do you have any pranksters around? 

     

    My boss and I a couple years ago drove someone to their wits end. He rebuilt his forks and every other week we would put a couple of drops of fork oil on the forks and on the ground underneath them. He changed out his seals four times that summer. Evil...yes. Hilarious since half the office was aware...yes. 

  3. oh yeah. new battery for my bike. They only last 2 years on the Ducs if we're lucky. 

     

    Aprilias are the same...high compression, v-twin eats batteries. I switched to a Shorai a year ago and haven't had a single issue. Several dudes in the Ape forums have had them for well over two years with no issues. With the higher cranking power they are a lot easier on the sprag clutch.

  4. Meh, I have MORE than enough horsepower... The only thing an FZ6 has that I'd want is fuel injection, but that's because the bike is a LOT newer.  I'm happy with the power my bike makes, and I'm a fan of the full-fairings and the ergos that fit me perfectly.  an FZ6 would've cost me more, had me sitting up too much, and not been as pretty (to ME).

     

    Yep...I wasn't knocking your bike, just poking fun. Everyone has their preferences.

  5. Fairings, and the ability to WOT while keeping both wheels planted for stability ;)

     

     

    Well shoot, if the front wheel doesn't come up on WOT, then it might as well be a 600!

     

    I'm not trying to get into bike wars, but the FZ1's fairing looks like an overbite ;)

     

    Also... That little ole thing aint a fairing!

    Take off a couple more pieces of plastic and your Tomkat is basically an FZ6 with less power. ;)

  6. US market is all about bigger and better... I think blueskeyes hit the nail on the head.. It's all about how much hp is on the spec sheet... If these companies took their Supersport bikes and threw bars on them and removed fairings, they would sell much better, but would lose the fun factor that current nakeds have

     

    But Yamaha has figured out something with the FZ9. I just wonder how much of that is due to the price point.

  7. Japanese just do not know how to build an appealing naked for the US market. The Europeans have given us the Tuono, Speed Triple, Super Duke, S1000R, and the Monster and Streetfighter. They basically just took their top end SS, and gave it better ergos.

    I understand it quite well and enjoyed the battle. My point is that the Ducati is pushed too hard to maintain the position up front and by the end of the race is lucky to place fifth. The bike has an issue in front end feel that is exacerbated by tire wear. There was no way in hell Dovi was going to maintain his position. He knew it, I knew it, and probably most of the people in the Ducati stands knew it. 

  9. My cb has an exhaust setup similar.. Sucks hiding part of the sssa but still looks nicer than standard, chain adjustments take 30 seconds and done on side stand, and the rear wheel takes less than 2 minutes to pull.. Just have to slide can off (stock had 1 clamp and bolt for hanger, my yoshi just has 2 springs and one bolt for hanger) awesome setup imo and maintenance is a breeze

     

    I will never doubt the ease of rear wheel/chain maintenance with a sssa.

  10. I just don't get the point on the VFR of a putting a single-side swingarm on a bike then installing a dumb looking exhaust can to cover it up.

     

    Plus looking at the arrangement, you're going to have to disassemble half of the RH side of the bike to get the rear tire off. Exhaust, exhaust hanger, maybe fairing to get the bolts that hold the hangar on...

  11. Suzuki gave a big FU. Didn't even wanna see it. I'll be fixing it this winter. Can't wait to rip a Suzuki rep ass at MotoGP in 2 weeks.

     

    Stand in line behind Honda, Yamaha and maybe Ducati. They all are looking for their time to rip Suzuki a new one...on the track.
