  1. I do love that gloss black tail panel. I'm shocked I don't see that on more cars with how good it looks.

Just a thought, if you are committed to LSR with the colt eventually, the C6Z might be a good reliable car to do your licensing runs in before had so that when the colt is eventually ready you can just aim and fire and not worry about Keith Turk or someone else denying your license and invalidating your run because you went 10mph over the target speed he asked you to hold.

No point in that at an ECTA event. Unless you stick to Texas or a 1/2-mile event you'll have to cage it over 135mph if Keith Turk and company are involved...lol.

  2. My recommendation is don't LEASE EVER! Either save up and pay cash for it, or if you absolutely have to....do as Not Brian suggested and buy one that's 2-years old and taken the price hit on it. Even then, payments are silly....especially on a toy/fun car.
  3. Nice ride that I actually like a lot!

My neighbor has last years with these wheels that I think would look SHARP on yours. When I was shopping a new F150, I was thinking of putting them on it. Not bad for OEM.

As much as I love the high end performance stuff, if you are keeping it long term 10-years+ it just won't be as reliable. Either be prepared to do the maintenance and work yourself out of warranty or keep shopping.

  5. Actually, yes. Plus you sit on the car rather IN the car. I didn't like that. When the seat is adjusted for me, I couldn't sit behind myself in the back. In my Saab, I could CROSS my legs sitting behind myself.

So now I'm just clueless, I do want the next car to be practical. I often hauled 8-10 feet long lumber in the Saab and the trunk still closed. I've hauled 10 bags of mulch in the trunk and it still closed.

I suppose the next thing is to see what visually interests me because if I don't like the looks, I'm not interested.

EDIT: I'm kinda interested in the Volkswagen Golf Alltrack, a dealer has a new one for 26k and it does look pretty cool. The Subaru Outback does look sharp but I don't know if it'll be absolutely anemic.

Problem with those cars since you drive 600-miles+ a WEEK is the fuel tank size (14.5gal). You will be filling it up with fuel every couple days. Any cheap daily driver that's going to be worth a darn for what you want is going to be border line/cheap/boring.

Seriously, go drive a Passat. You can get brand new ones or even a slightly used one for very cheap and they come with 99% of the stuff you want at a decent price. 600-700+ miles on a tank of fuel (18.5gal). My drive is longer than I like and I can tell you $40 a week vs $80+ a week adds up. If you are looking at any of those SUV's, that number goes to $60-120+ in just fuel per week.

Pay cash for the car, and save on the fuel. Don't end up one of those people paying as much (or more) in fuel than your car payment every month... :fuuuu:

  6. 2001 Passat and 2002 Jetta. Both were 1.8t's and both seemed to run properly and have everything else work properly about 50% of the time we owned them. It was enough to deter us both from VW's forever...and her dad is a HUGE VW guy. Has owned a multitude of them over the course of his life. Both vintage and newer....although after his "new beetle" (when they first came back) was totaled he went out and bought a Chevy and even he hasn't got another new VW.

Not saying they're bad. Not saying they're shit. Just saying I personally have had enough money come out of my pocket just for upkeep/repairs that I would rather not own another. YMMV.

I can understand why you feel that way but a lot of things have changed in the last 15-20+ years in the automobile world..lol.

Based on what other vehicles were produced around that time frame, I'd suggest you give a few other brands a chance. If that were the case, I'd never have given GM a chance yet here I am with my wife loving her 2016 GMC Yukon and I'm not a GM guy AT ALL.

I was going to suggest the 2018 R-Line Passat. They switched to the 2.0t engine and comes with a 6 year 72k mile warranty.

Still some '17 VW models around that can be had with a huge discount

    Definitely better

    +1

    AGREED 100%!

So far, I can confirm that:

I do not like the Hondas, they're nice yes but I do not want to drive one.

The Passat doesn't stir something for me.

The GTI, while an undeniable barnstormer, is too small and not capable enough for my needs.

The Flex Ecoboost is off the list.

The Kia/Hyundai twins do not interest me visually.

So far what is really stirring something into me based on initial appearances and features are:

    The Dodge Durango Pentastar/8A

    Chrysler 300S AWD Pentastar/8A

    Jeep Grand Cherokee Pentastar/8A

I can understand that but for as much as you drive you should really consider giving them a second look. The miles and MPG alone would be more than worth it for you. It's nice driving 600+ miles a week on one tank of fuel. Plus, they have almost all the tech you'd want for a DD and at a pretty cheap price if you want something new and a great warranty.

I'm not sure if I mentioned this but I'm planning on getting a camper and go camping. That's one of the reasons why it made the list.

I would still try to autocross them though.

I'm at a conflict because I now have the chance to get something I've wanted, a nice SUV but I am also conflicted because I know I need to be slightly sensible and financial wise since my commute is so long and frequent that driving a SUV isn't the wisest.

I really like the Volvos and the Buick Lacrosse but I don't want to get a base model with minimal options that's right at the limit of my budget. I want gadgets.

If you really want something that can do all that and tow a trailer then I'd suggest getting a Grand Cherokee diesel. High-20/Low-30's HWY and it would cover a lot of your other needs if you don't want a car. However, nothing you look at that's going to be a great daily cruiser with lots of highway miles is going to be racer fun and efficient. Unless you want to pony up the cost of a Tesla.. :)

  7. I'll look into it.

Besides, it wasn't my fault. The trooper cited the person who hit me from back which caused me to hit the car in front. ;)

At least it's not your fault or a ding on your insurance...

I once financed a Passat using that very logic. One of the worst vehicle purchase decisions I've ever made. The other was a Jetta. I have no clue on new VW's though. They may be...better?

To be fair Steve, you can hear. That means his sense of vision is more keen than yours. :gabe:

Really, what year? The old old ones had a few issues but not the later ones. You can't really go wrong with the 1.8/2.0T's. Anything B7/NMS has been a great car. We loved our 2014 TDi SEL and I'm loving my 2018 R-Line for a DD.

  8. Went to the auto show today and there were no new Silverado's on the show floor, only locked up on the turn tables. Ill reserve judgement on the Silverado's interior quality until I can get in one, but I do think that the RAM is at the top of the class in the quality of materials being used, but I do recognize that we only had 2 trucks open and they were highly optioned models. I can't say how well it compares in a base truck.

It's still quite disappointing that an "all new" 2019 truck doesn't have the features of their competitors, like Blind Spot Detection for one.

I get that other features, like Adaptive Cruise Control and Lane Keep Assist may be seen as more of a GMC feature instead of Chevy, which hasn't been introduced yet and Ford and RAM don't have a two model strategy. However, with RAM 1500 within spitting distance of passing the Silverado in sales, I expected them to come out with something better.

Features that both Ford F150 and RAM 1500 offer that GM doesn't (on any truck so far):

Blind Spot Detection with trailer coverage

    Rear Cross Path Detection

    Lane Keep Assist

    Adaptive Cruise Control

    Automatic Emergency Braking

    Surround View Cameras

    Active Park Assist

    Power Deployable Running Boards

    Flat load floor

That's not correct,....GM offers all of that stuff except the 360-camera. What they don't have and should have had for the last 4-years+ is the smart key with push button start.

  9. I honestly don't think the new RAM looks that great. Aside from the 12" screen on the interior (which is just silly and wanna-be Tesla like) and the claimed largest crew-cab available in the full size class, there is NOTHING drawing me to the RAM.

I'm actually a FORD guy but have fallen in love with my wifes Yukon-Denali and the 6.2/A8. Depending what they offer and the new A10, I'd lean towards the Silverado/Sierra at this point. I don't know what it is but this looks great to me...but I'd probably want to lower it...lol

inform me when the hellcat motor is in one. Ill take a look at Ram then.

    +1

Will get a ticket for texting and driving, but playing with a 12 inch screen is okay.

    LOL...TRUTH!

I’m not that brand loyal. You can’t ready go wrong with either ford, Chevy or dodge imho.

AGREE....you really can't! All are great trucks and MUCH improved over just the last 10-years.
