  1. .... in 1928. A mechanism that runs on absolutely nothing: http://www.davewestclocks.co.uk/atmos_clock.htm http://www.davewestclocks.co.uk/New%20images5/Atmos%20clock7.jpg http://www.davewestclocks.co.uk/New%20images5/Atmos%20clock5.jpg Cliffs: "The power consumed by a 15 watt light bulb could run over 60 million Atmos clocks simultaneously." Inside a sealed capsule, a mixture of gas and liquid expands as the temperature rises and contracts as it falls, moving the capsule back and forth like a tiny unseen accordion. This motion is used to constantly wind the mainspring thus enabling the clock to run and keep perfect time. A small temperature variation of just one degree is sufficient for over two day's operation. Such variation occurs naturally in normal room temperature and thus without any additional sources of energy, the Atmos clock will continue to run, if left untouched, "forever" Write up. Damn those industrialists of the 20's and their short-sighted nature killing machines!
  2. True. I opted for the boat ramp fail because he's already suited and the rear hatch is popped.
  3. I have a feeling that he didn't try it. The car probably ended up in the river and washed up there. Maybe he left it in R when he hopped out at the boat ramp.
  4. http://thatwillbuffout.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/10/AndrewC-via-wwwdotmikeleeds.jpg It's funny cuz i have one, and have forded rivers with it.... much shallower rivers.
  5. Many thanks, numbers corrected.

  11. Good question, possibly none, going off of what I know about the manufacturer. Will learn all that when it gets serviced. Here is the same movement with jewels.
  12. No real age restrictions, only size. My boy got into this one when he was around 2, and he's 4 now, 37" tall.
  13. Let me know. I should be in Columbus this weekend, so if you want it, let me know and I'll have it with me and ready.
  14. That's why its called "Science Abuse".
  15. I know of lots of things that heat as they cure... but I honestly did not know that plaster of paris was one of them.
  16. http://www.mirror.co.uk/news/top-stories/2009/10/13/art-class-girl-loses-eight-fingers-after-putting-hands-in-plaster-of-paris-115875-21742795/ Dayum.
  17. Check out the dude hopping the pool table on his way for the door. Boy got moves.
  18. I came here looking for a Kodiak or Grizzly bear fighting MMA goons.
  19. That is a truly amazing testament to the resilience of the human body. . . . If that happens to me, leave me in the water, let the sharks finish up. Seriously, fuck living like that.
  20. What was that bright pale spot moving 'round the middle of the screen? Sweeeeet I like that one better.
  21. With cliffs for the lazy: Part 1: Description of how was designed and built. Cliffs: It's under 10mm across, and the frail delicate cage is machined from a solid block of aluminum. part 2: The difference between clock time and solar time, why it's not linear, and how the wristwatch accurately tells you the difference... mechanically, without inputs. Part 3: How it tells you the month and the day, accurately, including leap years, forever, mechanically.
  22. Things to keep in mind: -This watch was built in 1894 -This was a "mass produced" watch, not super-cheap but by no-means high-end. http://img240.imageshack.us/img240/9290/waltham.jpg http://img91.imageshack.us/img91/3157/walthammovement.jpg http://img101.imageshack.us/img101/1434/walthamadjust.jpg Loaded up on the scope. Clarity isn't great, but the magnification is awesome: Here we see the balance wheel and escapment gear: http://img245.imageshack.us/img245/3588/wheelsy.jpg Escapement interface. The edges of the gears appear sharper than those of an exacto-knife under the same magnification: http://img110.imageshack.us/img110/8844/dscf3112.jpg Bimetal Balannce wheel rim. Because the spring-rates vary with temerature, the balance wheel is made of a steel-brass sandwich, which causes it to shrink or expand with tempurature, countering the change in spring rate. The rim is only .010" thick, making the steel layer only about .003" thick. http://img266.imageshack.us/img266/7748/dscf3110.jpg Pretty much everything used by this watch was developed a few decades before it was made.
  23. So they rewrote it to center the plot on a Depp character? Sad.
