My concern would be with moisture. If the wheel keeps with the oxidation process it'll only damage the coating, and eventually peel it. With thr sealer it stays somewhat pliable. Less likely to leak. The problem may lie in the bead of the tire itself.

Not likely. Best to clean them again, making sure there are no cracks or bends. Make sure the area is smooth. Then re use the sealer.
