  1. Ford's 6F35 has been an unending shitshow as well. I seem to recall they lost a lawsuit over it one already. It is 100% the worst acting automatic transmission I've ever driven on any car or piece of agricultural equipment of any age. It would have been embarrassingly bad in the 1930s. In the 2010s, it's nothing other than negligent.
  2. I didn't think they could actually pull you over for either of those things unless union has their own law regarding it, both are equipment violations

I think no front plate is a primary infraction (or whatever the real term is) meaning that they can pull you over for it and then go fishing to see what else they can ticket you for. I've been pulled over multiple times for no front plate, though never ticketed for it.

  3. Man, I've been pulled over twice for no front plates in the last 20 years. The last time was because I was leaving a bar and he was hoping to get a DUI out of me. After walking the line, touching the tip of my nose and blowing, I got off with a warning. Perhaps you should stop looking so suspicious all the time!

I've been pulled over twice in the same month before for having a plate they didn't like. The first time it was a normal Ohio plate but I had it folded up so just the numbers and county sticker showed (keep it out of the airflow to the radiator). Then I unfolded it and they pulled me over because they had a hard time seeing it with the light bar on the front of the car. I actually got pulled over 4-5 times in the course of about 3 years for that one. Every time they'd pull me over, walk up to the front of the car and look at the bumper, suddenly look really surprised, then run my license and registration anyway just to see if they were going to get lucky.

Yeah with it being such a short time, buying and flipping the bracket or just putting it on the dash I think is how we'll handle it.

  4. You dont have to do that. Just drive the damn thing or get a tow-hook mount for the time being

The tow hook mount that actually keeps the plate out of the way of the parking sensors is like $100. The cheap mount causes the parking system to fault out every time you start the car. I mean, in the end I'm pretty sure that what we'll do is just get the expensive mount and then sell it on the Alfa forum once we don't need it, but it still is annoying.

Given the number of times I've been pulled over for having a front plate but just not having it in a way they liked means I don't think she'd make it a year without getting at least one ticket, sadly.

  5. I'm frustrated that the change is taking so long to go into effect. Hopefully, in May or early June my wife's new Alfa will be delivered. It sucks that we're going to have to drill into the bumper to mount a front plate for 13 months and then be left with nothing but holes for the rest of the life of the car.
  6. The title pretty much says it all. I'd like to talk to someone who works in Ford dealer service department. I have a software thing I want done to my van and I have a TSB number and some other information from the van owner's forum. I'd like to confirm that I'm providing enough info to actually get the change made but the dealerships I stopped at today won't even check to see if they can do what I want until I pay them $120 up front, whether or not they're able to do the work.
  7. It takes a $9000 machine to cut those, the dealer may be your only option, also, unless the vehicle has the PCM programmed to allow additional keys to be programmed via the end user, it will require a dealer trip, or to someone with an IDS.

The car's computer can be programmed to accept new keys without a trip to the dealer since I have two authorized keys to show it first. I just need someone to physically cut the key.

  8. I want to duplicate the key for the used 2014 Transit Connect I just bought. I have 2 keys that came with it, so I can use the car itself plus those two keys to get the new key programmed into the computer. All I need is someone to cut the key, but after an hour of calling around, I'm striking out.

My current keys look like this:

And the pattern is cut into the face of it like this:

The part numbers for the blank are:

    Old Ilco Number HU101T17

    New Ilco Number H94-PT

    JMA TP33FO-24.P

    Original 164-R8062

    Strattec 5915237

Does anyone know a place that can cut these keys for less than the $100+ the dealer wants?

  9. Ok someone educate me. I've drive from Oklahoma to Alabama in my truck and have never seen #1 or #2 diesel. What's the difference? Every station just has tax or no tax diesel. I have seen ultra low sulphur vs biodiesel blend, but never seen them as a choice, it's one or the other depending where you are

#1 diesel stays liquid down to colder temps but has less energy (meaning the engine makes less power and gets worse fuel mileage).

#2 diesel gels up at sooner (meaning at warmer temps than #1 does) but has more energy (engine makes more power and gets better fuel mileage).

If you know how fractional distillation is done to turn oil into diesel, kerosene, gasoline, etc, #1 just comes off the tower a little higher/hotter than #2 and is more similar to kerosene than normal diesel. Effectively, everyone wants to run #2 diesel whenever possible but when winter comes, #1 gets blended in as necessary to keep the mix from gelling up. Some stations buy diesel from the distributor as a pre-mixed blend of #1 and #2 to suit the forecast winter temp and some stations sell both #1 and #2 to allow the driver to mix as they want (someone driving southbound might buy mostly #2 and plan on driving to a warmer place while someone driving northbound might choose to mix in more #1 to deal with the colder temps).

I did not see anything at the Meijer on Diley that indicated #1 diesel

Thank you for checking that out for me.

  10. I can swing by meijer on diley and check for you. What am I looking for on the pumps?

Over at the diesel pumps, they should be labeled "#1 Diesel" or "#2 Diesel" just like the gas pumps are labeled Regular, Premium, etc. Also, since the one guy said the gas there is E0, why don't you check the gas pumps too. They should say how much ethanol they have in them.

I'm probably the only one interested in the diesel, but many people on CR would be interested in finding E0 gas.

Thanks a bunch for doing this!

  11. Lol you're a "farm boy" and don't know the difference between Ag diesel and #1 and #2 diesel.

Well, to be fair, he said his main power product (percherons) are a few million years short of being diesel.

The meijer at 33 and diley used to have separate pumps for #1 and #2 and also had 100% gasoline. But that was 3 years ago that I've lived near there.

Oh, that's pretty close. I'll go check that out this weekend sometime. Thanks!

(well, pretty close in terms of how far I've had to drive to find oddball fuels like E0 and 1-K with good quality)

  12. Not trying to be a dick in the slightest but if you're looking for farm tractor diesel you're prob better off using google that CR.

    Best of luck.

    Sincerely,

    CR's resident farm boy

PS - we didn't use that type of diesel on our farm. Just percheron's.

Nah, I'm not trying to chase ag diesel, just normal road diesel. I tried googling, but it was spectacularly unhelpful. I figured here on CR enough of the guys might have a diesel pickup as a 2nd vehicle that there was a chance someone knew where I could buy some.

  13. I'm looking to store a bunch of diesel for my tractor. Since I need to fill up now (I'm out), I want to blend #1 and #2 diesel to get the cloud point low enough to tolerate anything we might get this winter. #2 is easy to find on any street corner. Where can I get some #1 at the pump? Bonus points if it's on the east side of Columbus or between Columbus and Newark.

    Thanks.

  14. I need some 40-50 thousandths sheet aluminum or steel cut into a ring shape. This is a pain in the ass to do with a jigsaw and file but the work of a few minutes to do on a PlasmaCam or a similar machine. Do any CR members have one or know of a shop that's willing to do one-off work like this? I only need two rings made which rules out getting it done at the bigger job shops. One of them quoted me a minimum run of 10,000 rings!

    Thanks.

  15. I'm out east of Reyloldsburg near Etna and I need a welder over here to make a repair for me. The mounting flange on the intake chute for my wood chipper cracked through. I've got both pieces, I just need them welded back together by someone who can keep the flange flat. As far as I can tell, it's from sheet steel, not cast iron, thankfully.

Anyone have a welding shop out this way they trust to do something like this? The Pickerington/Pataskala/Reynoldsburg/Etna area would be best.

  16. I would give zero shits if our country went upside down and everyone lost their jobs and houses. I'd be fine living in Kentucky in the woods, with my guns.

I'd give a lot of shits if I had to live in today's society without my guns.

A lot of people say that and I always think they must have forgotten about things like not having good interior light after dark, having to subsistence farm, and dying of your teeth in your mid-30s.

I'm not interested in living in our current society without the means to defend myself but I'm a lot less interested in living in the 18th Century.

  17. That doesn't surprise me.

Doesn't surprise me either since I avoided looking for video about it because I hate watching these idiots blather on. However, I get the feeling that you're saying print media isn't trustworthy, which is actually kind of funny given that most people have more respect for print media than TV news.

You're obviously not going to trust anything any of us turn up. Contact the campaign, get the transcript for the town hall meeting on 10/16/2015. If you are so sure you're right, prove us wrong.

  18. Link to speech please. If she said something about Gun Confiscation I need to hear it. Sorry but thats borderline treason. She knows that.

I only found print references to it. I don't follow video news. I'm sure with that date you could contact the campaign and get a transcript of the event or possibly even the video of it.

Name a significant Commercial interest that will significantly benefit from a Gun Ban / Confiscation. The rubber-bullet/Mace industry? Yeah, their the ones pushing it

Bloomberg is dumping millions into gun control.

Again, the likely hood of you needing a Gun to protect yourself from a failed Trump-run Government are far more greater then the likely hood of any sort of restriction put in place by Clinton. Man you guys need to wake up.

I think you've failed to read my earlier posts where I made it clear I'm not a Drumpf supporter. I'm not a Hillary supporter. Hell, even Bernie is a little too conservative for me but at least I'd be willing to vote for him until someone even more liberal shows up.
