Anyone know if they'll let me data log while the car is on the dyno? I just RSVP'd to the event and for $50 at 3 pulls - I can't pass that up.

If you help: No more front plate required by law
flashburn replied to flashburn's topic in Passing Lane
Back from the dead bump: According to NPR this weekend, this bill has either passed the house committee or is up for a vote in the house - sorry I didn't pay close attention to the story. Anyhow, it is up for a vote if it does pass committee (which I think it may have) - so keep those emails coming. -

Everyone in the thread seems to think this law passing or failing will be left up to chance or an ambiguous "they". Let me remind you that everyone should call or write their representative to make sure it passes, because "they" are very normal and reachable people. -

I agree with the above points, however: We elect the house of representatives - not the police. So if we can get the public to support the issue it is irrelevant what the police want. I know this is a stretch, but this is how the "system" works. Please just take the time to write and email or make a phone call - I've provided all the links to make it easy for you! -
Sorry for the bizarre title, and I hope this isn't a repost but I am going on a bit of a campaign for this because it just makes sense to me. If you disagree with me, you are wrong Please contact your representative and ask them to support Ohio House Bill 133. The bill advocates FOR a Single License Plate in Ohio. If it passes, we will no longer need those unsightly front license plates. This is a $0.00 cost to the state and could possible REDUCE the cost of your license plates since you will only need to pay for 1 plate instead of 2. I have provided all the links you need to read about the bill, look up your zipcode +extension and to contact your local representative. +2 to realizing that a class inspection would be a huge PIA and not practical. Thanks for that note as I hadn't considered it. Mostly minor stuff, like lowering springs, coil-overs adjusted lower than stock, rear sway bars, strut braces, performance headers. Nothing that is adding monstrous power but after you lace a few mods together, you can start to eak out a pretty large advantage. This is sage advice. Though, I'm also totally new so I could be in the wrong so I don't want to say anything. Also, I don't think I'm hugely competitive so I'd end up being that guy for nothing. Just to recap: In RTR you can mod front sway bars, cat back exhausts, remove anything not affixed with a permanent fastener and change out to adjustable struts - yeah? Like I said, I could be totally off since I'm also new.

I could really tell the difference between my driving at the fun event for the first time EVER versus my driving after the driving school and in the points day 1. Did anyone race in RTR? I noticed LOTS of mods that the SCCA lists as not RTR compliant but no one at tech called out. I'd like to make the same similar mods but feel dirty doing it. So dirty, yet so good...

Ah shoot, I should have asked who was from the forum at the event. Only guy I remember is Jones. I was gridded up next to you in the black... rough... Miata. Jones: Any thought in getting some track tires and putting all that power into the pavement? It was fun as hell watching you launch. I'm looking forward to OVR posting the results.

If I was not in Jamaica I would be there. Just got car finished in time for the season to be over, but networking can happen year round.

And if anyone is interested there is a meeting on Monday April 16th at 7:00 to go over the Rally schedule. Meeting address: Morones Italian Villa at the corner of Bethel and Godown Rds.

It's actually a dollar. Really, it is $1.62. $1.62 x 50 people = 81 dollars. 81 dollars easily = hot dogs, chips and drinks for 50 people. Maybe with some food you trolls could be happy and fed. Regardless, we can stop talking about it since Angry Bird already mentioned the fee is worth the hassle.

Some call it cheap, some call it smart. Ignorance is the enemy of progress. I'm just trying to explore other options so that someone doing all the hard work can be rewarded, instead of an online ticket counter. Actually yes, I would rather pay Anthony the fee. I don't mind paying a fee. I hate that someone outside of the event and group is getting money for doing nothing. It isn't the fee that bothers me. I disagree with the principle of paying someone for nothing. It goes back to the the idea of buying tools and not labor - which I think everyone can agree with. Obviously, it isn't possible so there we go. And if this does indeed make life easier then it is paying for something. So: /rant.

Is there a way pay and not pay the "fee"? I know it is a small expense, but I just hate paying a web broker to register for an event. They don't even print out a ticket for your fee. It's just the middle man charge. /rant

If I can get my car in time, I'll be driving there from Connecticut, which is 637 miles or about 10 hours If not, I'll show up on my bike for the 2nd half of the day @ about 20 minutes drive.

Did anyone elese pickup that this is a fully worked MR2 in a Lotus shell?
-
Thanks pat, will do! EDIT: OOF, the buy in to that Neon is 9k. To rich for my blood.

Yeah, there would be a waiver. I also know a lawyer who'd write it up pro-bono so it has a chance of holding up in court. I'll consult her about insurance too, I hadn't thought of that. I also think that type of crowd is generally pretty relaxed. Great point, thanks for bringing it up or I wouldn't have thought of it.

I made a huge typo, I don't mean Autocross at all. I mean Rally Cross! A sport that people wouldn't race their MX-5 in. Otherwise I totally agree, I wouldn't pay to drive someone else's autocross car either.
-
Yeah, the idea is to collect just enough money to pay my entry fee and for any minor repairs along the way. I'm not trying to make any actual money. I would only bring 1 car and everyone could use it. You only race 1 at a time so if myself and 2 other people all fielded my car we could all be able to race it - assuming it stays together. My buddy was telling me that by season 2 he had a whole bracket of guys racing his car and they all bench marked against each other for "best driver" comparison.

Hi All, I'm thinking about fielding a RALLYCROSS car this year for a whole season. I'm hitting CL for the 1k cars that look horrible but drive well. I reached out to an actual rally car driving friend of mine and he mentioned how he got his start about 10 years ago: Renting an auto cross car. What do you all think of that? Do you think their is a possibility of pulling that off in today's climate? He said he paid 35 bucks a session to race an old Altima at each RALLYCROSS event. This allowed him to preserve his 8v GTI Slightly ironically, I'm looking at picking up an 8v GTI as well with a 5 spd manual. Do you think there is any sense in renting it out for say, 40 a session? I know my better half would love it if I wasn't completely lighting money on fire for a beater RALLYCROSS car. So picking up maybe 120 a session over the course of a whole season would about break me even. Thoughts? Mods: Feel free to move if this isn't the section for this type of talk.

Does anyone know what's up with the Road Race and RallyX schedules?

Used to race but everything I have is slow now

Thanks for the warm welcome, everyone. I'm excited to get involved in the racing climate again. I had two years packed with excellent driving and riding but when I moved to Columbus it all came to a screeching halt. -

Thanks! You have a nice collection there. One other note, I have A6 interior swapped into my Passat. Gotta love those heated and power leather seats. -
Hi All, I'm new(er) to Columbus. I used to race actively back home in the NE and in the Akron area. I started with a Eagle Talon TSI - blew up the tranny, replaced it and sold that. Then I bought a RX-7 Turbo II. It sported a 62 trim turbo and was the fastest car I ever drove. Unfortunately, it blew a rotor housing so I sold that for a B18C civic. The civic was just slow, no way around that. I sold the civic for my R6. I ran a whole season in street bike class on my R6 and did pretty well. I sold that to help a friend buy a car and now I have a rebuilt 91 Yamaha 600. It's slow. I also used to do rally, up until this year. My brother and I had a fully purpose built 84 VW Rabbit which we won 1st place in just before my Sister-in-Law made my brother sell it... Needless to say, I don't care for her much. We no longer rally or autocross, but I'm hoping that changes with this group! My daily driver is a 2004 Passat 4 Motion 1.8t. It's as built as it can be without going to a bigger turbo. I'm just waiting for my ko3 to die then I plan on going up to a Gt2871, or about a 250 WHP setup. Right now my setup dynoed at 192 WHP so the extra ~50 or so ponies should feel very nice. Really, $$ is the only thing holding that build up. It is also slow. Lastly I'm building a 1968 VW Beetle Pickup. I'm trying to finish the body work this year, then it's the Passat's turn to go under the wrench. The Beetle is... unique. I've built a 1600cc ~55hp motor, so you can imagine how extremely fast that is. For the most part, the car is rust free and sits on a good pan (which is most important in aircooled VWs). I've rebuilt all the suspension, brakes and wiring as well as putting my Passat interior on the inside. I've got half the parts for a new ~95 hp motor, I just need time to build it! So I'm here, posting to you all, looking for a new crew to race with. I don't street race. I learned my lesson in College with that. I only track race, and I love it. It is a safe way to burn off pent up road rage and lead foot syndrome. I found you guys because of the event happening at NT, I'm hoping there is some autocross and rallycross love in the group? Finally, pics of most of the above: Me dragging the R6 http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7076/6850556216_af521355c9.jpg The rally rabbit after our 1st place finish. I know, crappy pic but I actually don't have any others. It sounds weird, but when you're driving rally the last thing on your mind is pictures! http://farm7.staticflickr.com/6058/6850556188_27187a26c5.jpg The only interesting Passat picture. She looks mostly stock, except for the wheels. If you haven't gather it yet, I do all my own work. http://farm7.staticflickr.com/6120/6850556244_38abe82163.jpg The Beetle 1600cc motor build. As you can see, I'm missing half the car. http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7072/6996680195_e93c0bb0eb.jpg And the Beetle on her way to the Columbus Auto Show this weekend. Like I said, unique and a work in progress. http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7271/6996680105_29597a03a5.jpg
