I always have coverage everywhere I go. Look at the coverage map, you'll see that 3g is limited pretty much to inside 270 and a few miles outside. When you do get 3g though it's typically hsdpa and fast as balls. If you like to kick it in the country its not for you. I recommend them because they are cheap, flexible and have great customer service with a fast network

Yeah, touring cars are awesome to watch, it's production based vehicles going balls out and not really caring too much if there is another car in their way.

Well any CDMA phone is not going to work on AT&T, so you want GSM phones. In the US that means that it's either get a phone that was released on AT&T, or get an unlocked T-Mobile android. T-Mobile androids will not get 3G on AT&T, the Nexus is really your best bet for many reasons. It's the developer phone, and it's Google's phone, so it gets extra attention. Check out the HTC Aria, it's on AT&T and its cheap. Not sure how much developer and cook backing it gets though. The G1 and MyTouch phones still get a lot of backing too from developers and cooks, but those wont get 3G on AT&T.

It's not a marketing thing, but you're right. Verizon is CDMA and AT&T is GSM, which is why the iPad won't work on verizon's network without this separate CDMA 3G modem...you'd be better of just buying a a wifi modem and then using your android phone as a wifi hotspot....oh wait...verizon charges for that too.
