The Race-R Pro is the flagship offering from Shark, and it was developed from the ground up to go racing. Watch any of the top motorcycle racing series in the world and you’re bound to spot a Shark Race-R Pro on a number of competitors, whether it be MotoGP, WSBK or a national championship series like BSB. In order to meet the demands of these world-class riders, Shark gave the Race-R Pro a full complement of features that provide comfort and safety.

At a glance, the Shark Race-R Pro looks aggressive. Its shape doesn’t come from a styling decision, however. The extensive use of CFD (computational fluid dynamics) and wind tunnel testing resulted in a shell shape that efficiently channels air where it needs to be in order to remain stable and vent properly. One of the more noticeable of the aerodynamic features is the uniquely shaped, dual-wing spoiler at the back. This piece was found to further reduce drag and add stability at speed. When studying the aerodynamic properties of the Race-R Pro, Shark also paid attention to the ventilation. Four fully adjustable intake and seven exhaust vents help keep you comfortable in a variety of weather conditions. The shell itself is made from carbon aramid fibers that make it very light.

When inside the Shark Race-R Pro, it becomes clear that they didn’t skimp on details to keep the rider comfortable. The liner is incredibly plush and it surrounds your head with a material made from bamboo fiber. This material is one of the softest fabrics available, but also has excellent moisture wicking and antibacterial properties that keep it fresh. Shark also made it easy to seal out the elements and get a more comfortable fit with a drawstring system in the base that allows you to tighten up the entire neck roll to your liking. The seal is also aided by a neoprene chin curtain that is wind and water resistant.

One element that has always set Shark apart from other helmets is the shield, and the Shark Race-R Pro has their latest in optics. The faceshield has a Class 1 optically correct rating, which means that there is no distortion and doesn’t put any strain on your eyes. The shield is also designed to protect, so it is nothing short of substantial. It has variable thickness that is 3mm at the sides and 4.25mm in the center. Shield changes are very easy and fast thanks to the quick-change mechanisms on either side.

The ventilation system on this helmet is supurb thanks in part to wind tunnel testing.
