wacky_woodchuck Posted February 18, 2014 Report Share Posted February 18, 2014 I have a set and have changed quite a few tires with these. They flat out work. I've used them on a variety of rim/tire combos (sumo/dirt/160 street/180&190 street tires. They break the bead well, do not scratch but they do take some time. I do have a HF tire changer that has the attached bead breaker and I hate that thing. So these work much better and it takes less than 5 minutes a rim to break the bead all the way around on both sides. The easiest thing to do is take small bites until you pop the bead. Then it just peels off the lip. I paid the full monty, $70 for my set and glad I did. It is a life saver for changing a flat sumo tube out on the road as these are packable. I've been thinking about making a hitch mount bead breaker, but this would be a more compact options...already have enough crap in the garage. nk140 Posted February 19, 2014 Report Share Posted February 19, 2014 I use a 2x4 and a 1x1 spindle cut at an angle to break my beads. I use the frame on my truck as leverage. RHill Posted February 19, 2014 Author Report Share Posted February 19, 2014 I've done the same using the hitch on my car an a couple pieces of 2x3"...but being a lighter vehicle it tends to lift the suspension which makes it a pain. Also wanted something I could take to the track so I could mount up tires in the evening when doing multiple days....and these little pry bars are a lot more mobile than a couple 2x4"s.
