RidersDiscount
Sunstar is the largest producer of OEM motorcycle and ATV sprockets in the world and certainly, one of the most respected names in the business. If you’ve owned a Japanese-made machine in the last sixty years, there’s a good chance you’ve had a Sunstar sprocket on your machine. Oh, and if you’ve ever used a G.U.M. brand toothbrush, then yes, you’ve used a Sunstar brand product (but that’s another story!). Thanks to their long relationship with major manufacturers, you can expect every Sunstar sprocket to fit your bike perfectly. Today, we’ll focus on the Triplestar Aluminum Rear Sprocket from Sunstar. Each sprocket is fabricated using 7075-T6 series aluminum. This particular metal is regarded for its strength and durability while weighing significantly less than steel. Though, it is harder to work with from a machining standpoint. Not that it’s an issue for a company such as Sunstar. Each sprocket is perfectly machined for concentricity and flatness – both of which support increased chain life and reduced mechanical loss as energy moves from the driveline to the rear wheel. Sunstar uses their own tooth valley design which, they claim, maximizes chain-to-sprocket contact thereby extending chain life. To save weight, holes are cut to eliminate unneeded rotating mass wherever possible to reduce unsprung weight. These carefully engineered modifications to what would otherwise be a flat, toothed piece of metal, make it easier for the shock to keep the rear wheel in contact with the ground as well as reduce the amount of energy it takes to speed up, or slow down, the rear wheel. Once all of these cuts have been made, the sprocket is then subjected to an anodized finish. A range of colors are available for most bikes. For those looking to maximum sprocket longevity, we recommend the hard-anodized option – the gold sprocket, as this finish makes the aluminum a little more durable. And since you’re ordering a rear sprocket, don’t forget to ask about a front sprocket and take advantage of our special pricing a D.I.D. ERV2 520 pitch chains!
