Guest busteryhyman
Okay, asking for a friend, she knows NOTHING about cars, so ya know she has a 1992 GMC Suburban, it's been having fuel problems for awhile, as in, when you go to take off at high speeds it would putter and you'd have to slam on the gas to stop it. today she got on 71 and did that and well the car died, and wont start back up anymore suggestions? if you try to start it you can smell gas, she says
Tractor
Well its either not getting fuel properly or its not getting spark. It could also be, but not as likely that the injectors on top of the TBI unit aren't firing properly. You can check them by running it and pointing a timing light at them. They should spray in a nice fan pattern across the TBI opening into the intake. You might just put a fuel filter on it just because it probably hasn't had one yet anyway. Kevin R.
It could very well be the fuel pump. That is going to be my #1 guess.
Tractor
Yeah good guess. it can be checked by listening to the gas tank while turning the key to the on/run position. You should hear the pump run unless its at full pressure already or your not getting power to the fuel pump. If you suspect that its at full pressure wait a few hours or a day and try it again.
