stolen 5.0
ok, my crank position sensor is bad, i figured it would be near the crank but, someone told me it's on the back of the motor somewhere. i jus thought i'd ask before i went looking. SPLN SUX
its probably on the front side of the block... 6in or so from the bottom. Ive never seen the placement the old 2.8/3.1's but they are usually all in about the same area.
Buck531
On my Lumina it's behind the crank pulley. (if I remember right). Probably the same general area.

el aguila
Doesn't have to be on the balancer. Also could be on the flywheel (windows for hall-effect and teeth for PM generator). Check the back of the block. I bet you'll find it there if you can't find it anywhere else. *edit* Did you check the distributor if it has one? [ 15. Dave1647545494
v'6 chevy crank sensor is magnetic and sticks in the block should be right above the oil pan by the balancer

stolen 5.0
shawn i appreciate that, i'm bout 90 minutes east of you now. but the concrete should be ready to drive on tomm in my garage and i'll fire up the torpedo heater. doesn't look like i have to remove anything to get the pan off though
stolen 5.0
how bout this idea, i just pop the sensor out of the block into the oil pan and let it roll around. whats the chance of it hitting a crank journal? or what about a big magnet on the back of the pan to hold the sensor at a certain point inside the pan? some stupid idea to save me work maybe
Dave1647545494
you could try it but its kinda light and might get sucked against the pickup tube and starve the motor for oil.
