Yeah, at least a smaller upper pulley (i.e., the pulley we normally mean when we refer to a pulley swap). I'm running a 2.93" and haven't experienced any problems, and several other guys I know are running smaller pulleys than that without needing to upgrade the HE. Mess with the lower pulley, though, and it'll usually require an upgrade.

The stock unit is actually quite efficient. I run a 2.81 pulley and I've done some long repeated highway pulls without feeling any loss of power. But as John pointed out, if you add an upper/lower combo heat could become a problem and you might want to upgrade.

I have probably 3/4s of an 03s whp, so I think this may work out just fine.
