Guest Mekkahfire
Anyone know the cheapest place to get this done at? Cheap, but reliable smile.gif
Guest powers
Lockdown? down't you mean leakdown? and BTW a compression test is not the same as a leakdown.
Guest chochmo
why don't you go down to Jegs and buy a compression tester for $30 and do it yourself?? the damn thing even comes with instructions for those that may need them...
Guest FBody Addict
or go to autozone and get one for 15 its easy, remove all spark plugs ( mark wires for cylinder so you can put them back in same place) screw the tester into the spark plug hole and crank it a few times all cylinders should be within 20 psi of the others
SVTCobraGuy
Buy the stuff and do it yourself. Shops make too much money. smile.gif If it's on your Toyota MR2, and you have around 8.8:1 compression, you should be around 185psi nominal, and 130psi service limit on your compression test. Double-check this with a local shop or manual though. I could be wrong and am being generic!!! There is also an "oil" trick where you pour 1-2 tablespoons of oil into a suspect cylinder and crank a few times. If the compression significantly improves, you can assume the leak is caused mostly by rings, rather than valves. And bad valves will cause an audible backpressure "hiss" or "putt" sometimes. And on the "oil" trick, make sure to crank the oil back out of the cylinder before you put the spark plug back!!!! Maybe this will be of some help? I'm sure there's tons of other members with good advice as well. Originally posted by Im JDM Yo: Anyone know the cheapest place to get this done at?
