nurkvinny
Two part question I need help with. I found a good deal on 128MB (2 64MB sticks) of RDRam. It was shipped today. Found out it is PC600; my Dell has PC800. So.... 1 - Any problems with crossing 256MB of PC800 with 128MB of PC600? I know PC800 is backwards-compatible, but unsure if PC600 will work. 2 - My PC has (I think) 4 Ram slots: http://www.columbusracing.com/pics/vincepics/Slots.JPG There were some kind on cards already in the 'empty' 2 slots. Are these some kind of place-holders until you upgrade and fill all 4 slots? Here's a pic of the small place-holder card and the new RDRam: http://www.columbusracing.com/pics/vincepics/NewRam_Oldstick.JPG TIA, Vince
Guest Computerguy5
Using PC600 RDRAM at PC800 speeds may or may not work. It depends on the quality of the RAM in question. Basically you would be overclocking it. As far as the RAM placeholders, that's exactly what they are. RDRAM motherboards require that all the slots be filled either with RAM or the placeholders (they have a specific name, but I can't think of it off the top of my head), so if you were to add RAM, you'd put it in place of those placeholders. Be advised that RDRAM must be installed in pairs. I hope that helps.
