Vulcan900
Due to the lack of a job, I wont be doing the engine build up I wanted. I have the spare block, waiting, but thats as far as I can go right now. What I am planning on doing is putting the heads I got for it on the motor I have in the car now. I was possible thinking of doing a cam swap as well. Do you guys have any recomendations? My car is not a track car, yes I want it to run as fast as I can get it, but its a driver. Here is my set up I have now: 400 SMC 750 Holley DP Edelbrock(sp?) Performer Intake(Will prolly get a RPM intake when I do the heads) Heads: Chevy Camel hump 62cc Chambers, 2.02/1.60(?) Valves, ported & polished Hooker headers. B&M 2000 Stall Converter TH350 Tranny w/ Shift kit. So, what do you guys think I should get? Cam specs are my worst topic, I understand what everything means as far as RPM range, lift, duration, Hydrolic(sp?), Solid, BUT not really sure what specs would be the best for my car. Guest 10secondMouse
How much compression will this motor have, and what rear gear are you running? It will be easier to pick a cam knowing these factors.
Dave1647545494
you can run more cam with gears and compression I wouldn't go over .550 lift on the street try to keep your lobe angle at 110 or wider for idle quality crane makes a bunch of pretty good street cams in the 100 dollar range. Guest 614Streets
Summit cam and lifter kit P/N SUMK1103 214/224 .442/.465 112* SUMK1104 224/224 .465/.465 114* SUMK1105 224/234 .465/.488 114* You can buy Z-28 springs and run these cams without machining the heads for a larger valvespring. These cam/lifter kits are $71.95 They are "wolf in sheep" Crane Cams made for summit. "Z-28(.490")" springs can typically be had for less than $30 , they are typically $17 and up a set New on EBAY. The 1104 is a LT1(The original Camaro LT1 circa 1971) "350" hp grind and is what is refered to as a single pattern grind. Run the 1105 with at least 3.73 gear If I were in your shoes Id run the 1105 with a 3.73 and two eyebrow flat top pistons, or if its a weekend runner grab a slight dome piston. Thats just my bang for the buck combination , probably 13.40's on radials with a posi , 13.10 on slicks. With a dome top and race gas spinning the 400 to 53-5500 on the 1105 properly set up 12.90's A 3000 street fighter stall would probably chop another 2-3 tenths with slicks. Un cap it at the track.
