suffocateXfaster1647545505
This may not be really a tech help but right now the car is definatly going to fall apart soon heh, the tranny seems really bogged and if you hold the accerator to the floor sometimes it will miss a shift and bounce off the rev limiter the tranny has been slipping for a little while, any ideas as what it is? Should I just scrap the car? I know that it's going to just like drop out soon. But right now I need that car because of insurance. Also when I get out of the car their is a akward smell. I don't drive the car hard by any means. Just normal commuter drive. I'm afraid to bring it in to a mechanic shop just because of what they will say lol anybody have any ideas? I know this may be a pointless post but any response is fine with me. Thanks for reading this bs post. Thank You in advance. Also don't hold this post against me
nurkvinny
Rev limiter on an 89 Cutlass? What's the trans fluid look and smell like. In other words, does it look black or smell burnt?
suffocateXfaster1647545505
Well not rev-limiter par say, but it just bounces, you get the "rng rng rng rng" like the engine revs up really fast right before it is supposed to shift and just starts bouncing at the high rev. And as far as the trans fluid goes it appears to be fine, I'm not sure where the smell would be coming from, but the car just seems really boggy. I mean the car is a POS already, but I'd kind of like to keep hold of it for as long as I can.
nurkvinny
Sluggish transmission; an automatic 'missing gears'; a strange smell; a bogged down engine. Hmm. Maybe do a trans filter / fluid change and hope for the best. Also, maybe yank that catalytic converter off and remove its guts, then put it back in - just to test if it's good of course. A f'ed up converter can cause power drain and cause funky smells.
Buck531
If it smells like rotten eggs, it's the cat converter. Try a tune up? Plugs, oil, filter, etc. Tranny fuid (don't do a power flush.. just drop the pan).
