Guest infamous me 235

I was outside with my laptop in my car, because i was coming home from my g/f's house and it sound it found a connection, linksys, which is mine, and it said its unsecure. now at my g/f's house, it found 2, bart and ____, and it said its secure and needs a password.

 

how do i make mine secure so people cant "steal" my internet? my router is hooked up to my desktop which no one uses b/c it has so many virus' it doesnt start.

if its linksys you goto you gateway addy

 

(* find this by going to start run cmd type ipconfig) it will say 192.168.0.1

 

then you goto http://192.168.0.1/

 

login admin/admin

 

setup wep / set a key

it should be the button on the left

setup your key and write it down ebca this is the key you will use with windows.

 

If you need help man i can come over and do it for ya if live around galloway

Follow up new law in USA says if someone uses your connection to break the law you held liable if you did not enable proper protection WEP or WPA

btw wep is just a way to keep someone out if they dont want in .. WEP can be broken with tools in about 5 minutes. WPA is the way to go . and MAC filtering does 0 I can sniff a network and use ur mac address once i know it and be in with ease

something opens, then closes right away.

 

and if i click the http://192.168.0.1/ , it doesnt connect
