Nate1647545505
Hey hey, I'm looking into building about a 2 foot deep, 5 feet long work bench. It's mostly going to be used for soldiering, building and homework smile.gif . Any have any ideas of what I should top the wood with? Any building ideas would be great.. buelliganx1
We've got a workbench in the basement that has a top made out of a cheap wood door. Its nice and smooth can be cut down to fit your needs and if you find one that has some damage on it can be had for really cheap.
street pilot
polyurethane is always an option. Plexiglass would be cool too, you could put whatever designs (paint, pictures) you wanted underneath it. diamond plate would look sweet, but suck to write on. smile.gif
Science Abuse
sturdy work bench: stack up 2x4s to the desired width, in your case, 2'. Glue all them bitches together. Mount 4x4s at each corner, and run 2x4's connecting each of them, once around the top, butting up tot he surface, and on row 3" off the ground. You can lay plywood across the bottom 2x4s to make a shelf. You have yourself a sturdy and massive table top suitable for everything from simple homework to rough S&M sex. For a smotth surface on top, use a sheep of cheap lexan (if you're not worried about heat). A slab of 1/8 stainless would be best, but that may be expencive. Dave1647545494
wow you guys are way out of control on the work bench ideas. a simple 2x4 frame mounted to the wall in the back with legs on the front with a top made out of 3/4 plywood sheathing is more than enough for what you want to do. hit me up sometime on a weekend I probably have enough scrap laying around to build a decent bench later
