Orion
brian, help me out here. i dont know shit about tuning, so please dont consider the a "dj is being a hater" question. why is the graph so choppy? are they all that way? i seem to remember seeing some other graphs for various cars that had much smoother curves. i also remember seeing graphs that had curves that looked like they were drawn by an epileptic having a fit during a 7.5 magnitude earthquake. why is that, bro? oh, and btw, nice numbers, nice car. if im gonna pay something like 80 grand though, id better at least get a momo steering wheel and a decent short throw shifter. <stupid ford>
Got-Boost?
Many things play a factor in the graph. Could be tire spin, tune, weather, etc...or just plane the values on the program that display the graph. P.S....Cobra R's can be bought for a lot less than $80k..... Nate1647545505
DJ, 99% of the times a choppy graph is due to RF intereference with the RPM pickup(s). With most newer style cars that use a Coil on plug/waste spark system, the current is limited primary side of the coil and the voltage is very low compared to the secondary (zap the shit out of you) side. This rules out the cleaner signal you get by taking your reading off the primary side of a tradtional coil used with distbutor type signals I had a bitch of a time with the Grand Prix on the dyno, actually had to use both secondary pickups - like the manual stated (RTFM?). I watched one of Mallet's techs dyno a Mosler with a motec stand alone, the working space was so cramped, and being a kit car, there was little to no insulation to prevent any RFI, they had to mount an optical sensor to get a smooth dyno. I've also seen the pickups be the source of the problem. The pickups are very sensitive and should be replaced if there is any question. It would have made my graphs a bit smoother
Orion
thanks for the knowledge, nate.
Guest powers
On Mod motor cars the knock sensors are over sensitive and pull and add timming all over the top of the range. Once you turn the knock sensors off the graph will smooth out. The allowable voltage for the knock is not adjustable in the ford EEC so you can work with it with an aftermarket ecu. Orion
it wasnt a ford gt, it was a cobra r.
Guest Removed
it wasnt a ford gt, it was a cobra r. I understand that! Suggested list was $50,000 on the R model back in 2000. The r model is a drop in the bucket , compared to the GT's final price of $230,000!
Got-Boost?
Only the first idiot on the block would ever pay those prices. You just have to shop around.... http://www.fordgtprices.com/pages/9/index.htm Many are going for UNDER invoice now.
