CJINOHIO03
I have a computer that crashes and then the only way to get it turn on/work is to reformat it. After that is done it will work for a few days then errors pop up normally about the hard drive. It says to run chck disk or disable new software/anti virus software. How can I test it myself? Or can I just take it some where and have someone do it? Anywhere locally? Thanks
Draco-REX
Goto IBM and drownload DFT (Drive Fitness Test). Do the full test and if it comes up red, pitch that HDD.

87GT
Go to Star run, type CMD. Hit Run or OK. Type chkdsk and hit enter. See what happens.
Draco-REX
You can get DFT HERE. Though IBM owns Hitachi, for some reason it's only on the Hitachi website. Sorry. If you want a whole set of tools, get the UBCD.

Buck531
I'm not sure, but on some Dells, hit F12 when turning it on (if you can) and up comes a boot menu. Go to the hard drive test and see what happens. If it fails you'll get a return code. Or, if it's an older Dell. Power it on and hit CTRL-ALT-D when it turns on. On the really old CPI's that brought up a Dell hard drive test.
