The riddle appears to imply that there are four people on the fishing trip, when, in fact, there are only three, all of whom are related: a "grandfather," a "father," and a "son." The two fathers are the grandfather (who fathered the father) and the father (or fathered the son); the two sons are the son (who was fathered by the father) and the father (who was fathered by the grandfather).
