Gun thoughts

I have the opportunity to get a Smith & Wesson M&P 9mm full size with a case three mags and a holster for $440. The guns has about 900 rounds through it. Does this sound like a good deal. It will be my first gun. I've been wanting to get one for a while (have never shot before) and this deal came up. Is this a good gun for a first timer?

Thanks for the thoughts and if I get it I'll probably start reading the threads on going to the shooting ranges.

Well I would say no. Vance's has the S&W M&P 9mm and 40 brand new for $429.99 after a $50 mail in rebate. Plus it comes with a case, 5 magazines, holster and magazine pouch. So if you can pay the $479.99 now and wait for the $50 rebate, you are going to come out ahead.

I have never shot the M&P 9mm, but I have shot the 45 version. It is a smooth gun for the price. Now if you want to go a little cheaper, I have the S&W Sigma 9mm. I paid $299.99 for it last year. At Vances they have it for the same price but it also gets the $50 rebate, making it $249.99. Comes with a case and I think 3 or 4 magazines.

$350 good fair price on used m&p

IF YOU BUY IT, INSPECT THE MAG CATCH/RELEASE for wear.. it may be worn to the point of needing replaced or the mags will drop upon fire.

If he says its brand new, get the serial number and check it too, its possible that he got an older one and is trying to ditch it. (you never know.)

The Sigma series has had a lot of changes through out the years. The trigger pull is still heavy, but much lighter compared to when they first came out. Also the more you shoot them, it does lighten up. I have put about 2,000 rounds through my Sigma 9mm and the trigger pull has gotten much lighter then when I first got it.
