Guest Hal
Who wants to see an ex Navy SEAL get "tortured"? http://current.com/items/86417301_kaj_larsen_goes_waterboarding Kind of interesting to see him after he's done being "tortured". I say effective form of interrogation, not torture. I am sure it is done worse in the "field" but still not torture.
Guest Hal
I agree it's not torture, that's why I used the quotes. That was my point, too many people think it's a horrible thing to do. I didn't realize that they go through waterboarding in SERE school, just found that out.

I've heard they put you through some serious shit in SERE school. Like, nobody leaves the mock interrogation process without some broken fingers. Guest Hal
I hadn't heard that. I don't enjoy broken fingers, but hell, I've already broken all of them at one point. I have heard stories of one SEAL that would break out every single night. No matter what they did they couldn't keep him in.
street pilot
Interesting video, especially after watching Rendition this weekend. I agree that it should not be classified as torture, since afterwards you are walking away with yourself in one piece. I almost drowned once, and it sucked. Didnt screw me up mentally or physically though. Not sure if it is an urban legend or not, but I thought all SEALS were forced to drown, then resuscitated. Guest Hal
No, that probably came from the training term "drown proofing". It's just to get you comfortable in the water. They bind your hands and feet then throw you in a pool. You learn to swim bound and other things like that.
mrblunt
Making me feel like I'm going to die is pretty torturous to me. Sure it doesn't have the same physical pain as burning me with steam or something of that nature but having that feeling for an extended period of time would be quite the mental skull fuk. The problem is that its a pretty subjective discussion, not everyone can agree. Doesn't sound like the Geneva Convention matters anymore, we're too cool for school to follow shit anymore. Guest Hal
Geneva Convention IIRC doesn't apply to combatants that are out of uniform. Insurgents are not uniformed combatants. Been a while since I learned about that though. That is only one of the reasons that the Geneva Convention does not apply to those prisoners. Orion
ok, im sorry about this guys, but my pet peeve is making me do it. they are the "geneva conventions", not the geneva convention. convention like this... 3.an agreement, compact, or contract. 4.an international agreement, esp. one dealing with a specific matter, as postal service or copyright. 5.a rule, method, or practice established by usage; custom: the convention of showing north at the top of a map. 6.general agreement or consent; accepted usage, esp. as a standard of procedure. ...not like this... 1.a meeting or formal assembly, as of representatives or delegates, for discussion of and action on particular matters of common concern. 2.U.S. Politics. a representative party assembly to nominate candidates and adopt platforms and party rules. heres the wiki. please, read it. educate yourself. be someone who says, "what can i do to keep myself from looking a fool to educated people from now on?" http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Geneva_Conventions
Guest Hal
Lol, while I concede I did not even think about the "s" in conventions, I hardly think I'll educate myself using wikipedia.

Guest Hal
It's too early for me to act intelligent or read something. I think I have a refresher coming in one of my courses next quarter, it should be pretty interesting.

It's no joke, but it's better than being captured in real life. My take on the matter is, yes we might be America, and we should play by the rules. But when 75% of our enemies could give 2 shits about the Geneva Conventions, we should bend rules when possible. 1 life can spare thousands, and by all means we should take it if needed. - My ID card says Geneva Conventions, I looked before I posted to remember how to spell Geneva
