Guest GMoney
There is alot that goes into "dyno" or "road" tuning a car, it really makes no difference if the car is older, newer, without or with a MAF. The basic, you car comes from the factory with a set fuel map and ignition map. There are many things that can manipulate the stock maps, air temp, throttle position, rpm's and computer makes changes as it is programed to do. Tuning a completly stock car will help with MPG and Hp because the fuel maps and ign maps are designed very conserative. Mostly really rich and with very easy timing to make the car last and run on any fuel 87,89,93. Once you modify your car the computer has no idea what you have done and it really has no way to compensate in your case with out a MAF. So if you car is speed density it is super important if you modify it to have it tuned. A car with a MAF will "try" to compensate and will do a preatty decent job, but if you want to get that maximum HP you need to tune it. I could then go on for hours about closed loop and open loop. Closed loop is for normal driving the computer can only make so many changes from the stock map from what the O2 are telling the computer. Open loop is more for WOT and can't really make adjustments without the MAF, so if you put on modifications that cause the motor to flow more air and the computer doesn't know this then it doesn't add any extra fuel for that extra air that is now being moved. Lean condition or just plan poor operation. Like i said there hours and hours. This is just a short example
