Vander
I have never junked a car before. I saw in another thread that the highest in Columbus is $295 a ton. I have a few questions? Do they weigh the car in front of you? I dont want the car to be X pounds but they pay me for 500lbs less than that or something. Is the weight of the non metal parts such as the interior included in the weight? Also I heard some places pay less if it doesnt run? Is that true? Or is it same price running or not? Thanks for the answers in advance!
Twistedrx7
call junk yards and ask. Its the price of scrap, so its the total weight of the car. The more the car weights the more you get. Some places give you more if the car runs, some dont. depends. I highly doubt they would try to take you for 500lbs. that is a 1/4 ton less. Im sure people would notice. Crossle
My experience with taking scrap cars to the yard is that if your trailering it they take the total weight of your vehicle (car/trailer/rig) on the way in, they unload you then you re- weigh on the way out and the difference is what the payable weight is. The place we went to wrote the weight down on a piece of paper in and out then did the math. I know it doesn't answer all your questions, but that is the simple idea behind it. Weight is weight....shouldn't matter if it runs or not.
copperhead
$295 a ton is A LOT, I haven't heard what prices have been over the last few years but I've never seen it anywhere near that high. If the car isn't totally destroyed i would just call around to junkyards, I know that u-pick-it or whatever it is now will come and pick it up for you.
