medium fast
On the 8.8's when using the FRPP gears do you still use an installation kit ? I know people that do them all the time and use all the stock shims. That is how my car was done and it works perfectly (this only applies with FRPP gears)

I know people that do them all the time and use all the stock shims. That is how my car was done and it works perfectly (this only applies with FRPP gears) Depends on the center section but yes I always use an install kit because you can't adjust backlash if needed with the stock shims on the carrier. Its real common for me to be able to reuse the pinion shim though. With all housings still though what I do is go for the etched depth the manufacturer calls for which requires a corection factor if the bottom of the carrier journal is not exactly half the width of the carrier race when measuring from the carrier journal half mating surface. I go with what the numbers crunch out to be then paint up the gear up and look at the pattern. Ideal back lash on the 8.8 is .008 but if the pattern doesnt look good enough I will reshim the pinion , add a new sleave, can only do this about three times though before you fatigue the pinion bearing with the press(get it right within three or use new).
