Interesting find

My grandfather has been talking about this handgun he has and i finally twisted his arm to let me take a look at it. Needed cleaned something fierce and i am not sure if it can shoot ( appears to be something on the barrel i cant get off). Did a rough search and turned this up:

 

"The "Metropolitan Police" was one of that large group of small, inexpensive revolvers made from roughly 1880-1910 and usually called "suicide specials" since many people thought they were good for only one shot. Most were better than that, and the Hopkins and Allen-made Metropolitan Police was one of the better ones. They sold for anywhere from $1 to $4 at the time.

 

There is a mild collectors interest in those guns, but only in almost perfect condition, which very few are. Value, unless there is some unique factor (like proven ownership by some prominent person), runs well under $100.

 

The name, by the way, is pure hype. No police department ever used or issued those guns."

 

There is a production number on it so maybe this quote is incorrect, besides this thing has been fired a ton as far as i can tell.
