or going with 31 spline axels (i have 28spline now)

http://www.americanmuscle.com/moser-31spline-88-axle-9904.html

and one of these 2 differentials

my goal is 400-450 hp/tq over the next 2 years with the car... would 31 spline axles with one of the two diffs be ok? and if so, which one would be better for me? building a street/strip car out of it, and its getting a bigger motor...im thinking the locker would be better than the truetrac but any suggetions would be nice

a 9" isnt in the cards right now because of cost reasons, but i will be buying one eventually...just not anytime soon

look at all the play i have spinning the driveshaft...

I would take this opportunity and upgrade to 31 spline. I don't have any experience with the Detroit Locker diffs. I use a stock 03-04 cobra 31 spline diff in my cobra and it has been perfect. If you race a lot or with slicks I wouldn't trust it obviously.

Now my coupe is a different story. It's not a daily driver so I went with 33 spline Mosers with the Moser light weight Spool and C-Clip eliminators. I got everything for less than $600 shipped from ArtsParts. I still drive it on the street and it works fine... low speed turns cause the tires to chirp but that's it.

Light weight Spool and C-Clip eliminators on a street car! ive done it, but thats not something you want to do on a big tire car at all!

and i dont like c-clip eliminators on the street. they leak with lots of street driving.

a locker is the way i go on a street/strip car. yeah they are noisey, but at least you know that its working! and if youre making enough power to need one, more then likely, you'll never hear it :D lord knows i cant hear myself think in my car

how about the true track! works like a locker and a limited slip

and cheaper

http://www.lightningforceperformance.com/detroit-locker-truetrac-rear-differential-88-rear-end-p-509.html

and heres a used locker

http://winnipeg.kijiji.ca/c-cars-vehicles-parts-accessories-8-8-Eaton-Detroit-Locker-Differential-W0QQAdIdZ69258247

i didnt realize the locker for 8.8's where so much more.

IMO, fix the one you have. its cheap to fix, and then you could always upgrade to a 9" later. the spider gears in yours have a 150k of abuse on them. dont dont last forever!

that looks like 715 for axles and the housing..that doesnt seem too bad really...il l save that link...thanks...im going to go ahead and just fix the stock stuff like you suggested until i get the motor dropped in

or should i go ahead and get the 9" now since ill need to get it eventually anyways? ill save money buying it now because i wont have to buy the stuff to fix my 8.8

well if you fix the 8.8, you can sell it when your done using it! see where im going with this. and wouldnt you rather have the drive train in it? plus you can abuse that 8.8 till the 9 goes in.
