GonneVille
Alright, I know there's gotta be at least a couple guys on here that share my fascination with high-power tuber-tossers. :bangbang:Let's see em. I'll have some vids of my hairspray/propane cannon and new pressure cannon to post tomorrow night...
Mitch
Can you toss it two fields over? not bein an ass, thats just how far yer tater cannon needed to go. back in the day. just the basic design+ aquanet and a bbq igniter. fun fun fun
RedRocket1647545505
I haven't made one in a long time. My last one was retired after a bird killing spree. Ever seen a bird hit with a potato?

justinwebb
i have one that i made that is pretty much bad ass. It was powered by a 100,00 volt stun gun for ignition and has 3 points where it sparks in the tube for even ignition of the propellent. I used to use hair spray but then switched to propane. I have a setup that i calculated the exact air to fuel ratio and came up with the exact amount of propane needed. I also have interchangeable barrels and different grips for it. The last time we shot it the potato would go about 5-6 football fields i shit you not. It would hurt to fire. I have pics if anyone wants some lol
SpaceGhost
I have one two.
RedRocket1647545505
Would you care to post a video? I was probably 15-16 at the time. No videos. Steps for successful killing of a bird via potato: 1. Find bird on power line 2. Sneak up bird as close as you can. Preferrably with cover 3. Shoot bird 4. Laugh uncontrollably at cloud of feathers 5. Try to find bird 6. Upon successful finding of bird, stuff bird in potato gun and shoot it 7. Laugh uncontrollably, again. Takes practice, but my cousin and I got pretty good at killing them. Most shots were taken within 20-30'. I remember we could consistantly hit the 'O' on a STOP sign at 50'. :bangbang:
copperhead
lol, growing up a buddy of mine had a 9 footer that would shoot across the Ohio river into WV

I know for sure it's at least 300yards. The air cannon, I'm not sure of at all. I only got to fire it once today cause of the lousy weather, and at 100+psi, it blew a golfball clean through a sheet of 1/4" plywood. AJ
my air cannon can launch tubes of calk 100 yards. thats roughly 400+ yards for golfballs. at night i like to cut glow sticks and fill salt shakers full of them and seal the lid and make tracers haha. AJ
i once sent a spud 500 yards with oxgen and acetylene, needless to say i had a 15' lead on my kill switch behind cover. good thing too, we didn't get the back screwed on all the way or we cross threaded it and it blew off about 20 yards. GonneVille
Yeah, I'm a little scared to try acetylene or ether. I might try straight propane, but only when I build a stronger cannon. The hairspray cannon I currently have is low-pressure sch40. I need to pick up some more of the 230psi rated stuff I'm using for the air-cannon before I try anything more powerful. BTW, I think most of us in this thread have access to actual fire-arms, so why do we still get such a kick out of messing with PVC and hairspray? I mean, is it the DIY aspect? Some inherent redneck genetic thing? Why the hell are these things so DAMN fun?:grin2:
AJ
well how often can you shoot tubes of calk out of a gun?
GonneVille
I don't even wanna think of the cleanup involved there...
AJ
used tube work the best because they weigh less and have some left over in the end to balance it out. never a mess since they are dryed up after they are used.
GonneVille
I think I'll stick to those little tomato juice cans filled with ice. Little bastards do a hell of a lot of damage, and if you hit a tree, they explode, rather than ricocheting like a golf-ball.

HAOLE
I made a dry ice cannon when I worked for a dry ice distributor in the south end of Columbus. For the most part it looked just like a spud gun but it had no igniter. I used a section of 4" necked down to 3" barrel. For the explosive charge I used a 20.oz bottle with dry ice nuggets/water and the projectile was a tennis ball. When it went off it sounded like a cannon. The projectile left the barrel so fast, you could only see the ball as it dropped in the distance. I took it to my brother in laws farm to shoot it, I would say it shot a 1/4 mile easy. The only problem with this design is if the bottle does not explode you need to leave the gun alone for a day or two so you don't get hurt unloading it. GonneVille
I hadn't thought of doing it that way. Gotta be a hell of a bang when it goes off. Anyway, got a few vids of the new pressure-cannon today. BTW, my buddy there is deaf, so forgive him the odd sounds in a couple vids. Sucker's THIRTEEN FEET long... http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y21/GonneVille/Picture013.jpg God, I sound like a real hillbilly on video... http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y21/GonneVille/th_Picture027-1.jpg http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y21/GonneVille/th_Picture030.jpg This one (golfball) went through a chunk of 3/8" plywood, then through the 1/4" plywood sheet behind it... http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y21/GonneVille/th_Picture031.jpg Potato, chunk of 3/4" plywood. It didn't go through the board, it blew it in half... http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y21/GonneVille/th_Picture033.jpg Sheet of scrap galvanized steel. http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y21/GonneVille/th_Picture032.jpg Finally later on, I found an old rusty trash can at my parents... The video is really dark, but the trashcan is on the right, you'll defintiely notice it when it disappears... http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y21/GonneVille/th_Picture036.jpg After the first shot: http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y21/GonneVille/Picture021.jpg Second shot is from the opposite side: http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y21/GonneVille/Picture022.jpg http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y21/GonneVille/Picture023.jpg
ImUrOBGYN
lol Just before I came to this thread, I jokingly advised someone else to build one of these to shoot a net. Then, immediately saw this thread. Great timing.
GonneVille
I think if I fired a net with this thing, I'd end up with diced whatever-the-hell-it-is-I'm-hunting.
Crossle
In high school we had to make an air powered something, or a catapult. We only had to go 30yds with air power and you could only use a bike pump to pressurize it. Needless to say, with experience we went 172 yds, into the apartments on the other side of our stadium. We still hold the school record, and we were the intro to physics class....not the AP calc-based physics class lol. This year the closest was 115ish and it was the younger brother of Josh, who was part of our group of 3.
