Dr. Apex Posted November 25, 2008 Report Share Posted November 25, 2008 Today all of a sudden my radio quit working in my Pathfinder, then all of a sudden it started running a bit rough at idle. Then I notice the lights on the dash have become super bright and when I kick my wipers on it's like they're on nitrous. I get to Advance and test the alternator, 18 volts!!! Way too much, but it's only putting out 9amps(not sure if that's right or not). I'm guessing the voltage regulator is gone, so I have another alternator on order. Question is, can/should I even keep driving until my part comes in? In hopes it would use some of the excess voltage on the way home tonight I ran the defrost/mirrors and fan on high but my battery sounded like it was frying eggs when I got home and don't want it to fry the ecu or something else.
