jarvismb
IMO, this is great news. We're talking about possibly one of the great medical breakthroughs in the history of our species. If this leads to breakthroughs in mass tissue regeneration, think of al the lives that would be given back to the paralyzed and the terminally ill. Even if we just think of our own little niche on this forum, imagine the riders who were seriously injured who could be repaired if this kind of research were to show promise. The potential is limitless for this kind of research.I think this is great stuff, here.

Putty
http://www.cnn.com/2009/HEALTH/01/23/stem.cell/index.htmlI notice that excites you yet no thanks to Obama for it. You sure put his name in what pisses you off.I'm just saying i noticed that is all.
flounder
Did Obama have something to do with it? Im honestly asking since I dont know. I just find it hard to believe the he bacame president only a few days ago to attribute this to him as this has been an ongoing issue for years. Taken from CNN" Federal research funds were prohibited for embryonic stem-cell research until August 2001, when Bush approved spending for research using only already-existing cell lines. Scientists later discovered that fewer than two dozen of those lines were useful for research, but abortion opponents opposed any legislation that would lift Bush's restrictions, and Bush twice vetoed congressional efforts to roll back his rules.President Obama is expected to loosen the restrictions, which many researchers and advocates have complained severely set back work toward curing disease such as Alzheimer's, Parkinson's and diabetes."It says obama is set to loosen restrictions but nothing about him being the reason for the current approval. Like I said, Im just asking, I dont have any idea. Im all for stem cell research.
Casper
I notice that excites you yet no thanks to Obama for it. You sure put his name in what pisses you off.I'm just saying i noticed that is all.Eh? First off, what did Obama have to do with this getting approved? We all know the FDA doesn't get ANYTHING done in just a few days. This has been on the table for years.Second, I'm the one constantly posting I didn't vote for Obama, but I support him and hope he does such a great job we're all re-electing him in four years. Where do I always put his name on what pisses me off?
Putty
Bush opposed it, so it never happened. Obama wants it and now it's happening. FDA couldn't just approve it themselves. If it was that easy, it would have been approved long ago.
Putty
I take back all I said. I have no time to debate Obama, Bush, McCain policies. You're all right...i'm wrong. Later.
The King
Huh....the FDA has to get presidential approval before it does anything.....thats news...I wonder if Bill Clinton approved Viagra? The tests could begin by summer, said Dr. Thomas Okarma, president and CEO of the Geron Corporation. The Food and Drug Administration has approved the trials, which will use human stem cells authorized for research by then-President George W. Bush in 2001. If Obama did it, then hats off. I don't understand what there is to argue?
The King
From what my doc told me, soon they won't even need embryonic cells. Interesting stuff...Everytime I hear the topic discussed, I must admit I can only think about Peter Griffin.
