3.1cutlass
I am building a mild carb 350. The motor is a new edelbrock crate motor. It will have the stock heads with a mild cam, decent intake and headers. Nothing crazy. What CFM carbs should I be looking for?

hpfiend
What is the max rpm? Estimate hp output of the crate motor with your modifications?
3.1cutlass
They were supposed to make 290 out of the crate IIRC. RPM not sure. EDIT They made 290hp at 5,100 rpm and 326 ft lbs at 3,750 rpm.
hpfiend
Well not knowing how much the vehicle weighs and what type of transmission/gear ratios you are using... if you make peak power at 5100 rpm there is really no reason to rev beyond 6K rpm (again not knowing gear ratios), with a mild cam, stock heads, intake and headers you are upping the volumetric efficiency to probably 90ish or below and that puts you somewhere between 550 and 600 cfm (600 being 100% VE)- I would go with a holley 4 barrel 600 cfm to give a little room to grow and great throttle response- probably their electric choke street version with pcv/vacuum brakes- maybe a double pumper but not sure what you have as far as options to use on the street. Most people prefer holley carbs that are not carb experts as they are the easiest to tune as everything is available. You can also use holley's calculator which requires more information but is very good. http://www.holley.com/applications/CarburetorSelector/CarbSelection.asp Edited February 26, 2010 by hpfiend Forgot to post link... Mattsv8
a 600 is as big as you will want to go. unless u want a poor running motor. get a edelbrock 600 cfm carb.
nurkvinny
Yep, stay at 600. 750 can be made to work on anything. But, with a stock 350, 600 is your best bet. When I was young and knew everything, I put a 750 double pumper on a 350 with a cam and headers. WAY too much. Went back to a Edelbrock 600 and ran perfect. 3.1cutlass
Thanks guys. As far as weight i'm not sure what it will weigh as of now. Transmission is still up in the air as well.
Dave1647545494
you can get a 2300 series 2bbl in a 550 not much room to grow but it'll be easier on gas
