LOL you're so right, thats why the import crowd has been taken over by janky ass cars because of what people think a japanese car should be. Im not even kidding nobody is org anymore its all about cookie cutter cars with janky ass fiber glass parts rivited all over it, stupid window stickers. You have guys building such nice cars from ground up and they pick a rim because they want tire fitment and its not "cool". Everyone is trying to get on that Shakotan swagger. I remember in the early 90's in japan walking home on friday seeing all the shiny shakotan cars scrapping down route 58 at the car wash getting ready to hit lkei island to race. I still remember by my grandma's house I would always see this mid 20-30 year old guy cleaning or driving his 70's Z, all I remember was how low the car was and how lopey the idle was and how obsessed I was with his car. My dad still has a ton and ton of old BETA tapes of the illegal drag racing footage of late 80's early 90's japan. I need to pay someone to put them on dvd if its possible. I am from a tiny tiny village near the ocean but on friday and sat night all you could hear was cars racing down lkei floating bridge.
