ansonivan
I put my turd-tow van on a lift this morning for a thorough checkout, the same thorough checkout which should have been done before purchase. I discovered that the passenger side rear wheel bearing is incredibly worn, the wheel moves about 1/4 inch. I assume I'll need a new axle shaft in addition to the wheel bearing and seal. I'm new to live rear axles so I have no idea what to expect, just wanted to get some input before I pull it apart and tie up my lift. 1997 e150 4.6 v8 178,000 miles

Dave1647545494
if the axle is scored ask for a repair bearing at the autoparts it moves where the bearing rides on the axle shaft so it doesn't need to be replaced
ansonivan
Went with a repair bearing, unfortunately the axle tube also had some damage so I'll eventually need to replace the complete rear axle assembly.
