4R70W transmission maintenance, mod and parts source

My 97 e150 has a delayed 2-3 shift, alldata lists an updated 2-3 accumulator piston as the fix.

My plan:

- replace 2-3 accumulator piston with updated part # F7AZ-7H292-AB

- perform "j-mod" aka selectively drill the valve body for firmer shifts with less slippage

- replace filter

Any feedback on the viability of the J-mod and my delayed shift repair approach is appreciated.

Does anyone have a specific Ford dealer/parts guy from which the prefer to purchase parts?

Found oem ford 1-2 and 2-3 acc pistons on ebay for $21 shipped.

If (when?) this transmission goes bang I'll look into swapping in a later unit.

I should be able to do all the work I listed in a few hours for under $100 including a switch to full synthetic Mobile1. Cheap maintenance > slightly more expensive and time consuming replacement.
