BDHG940
Doing a swap and noticed it looked like the 99 trigger wheel was thicker than the 03. Anyone ever swap a 03 motor to n/a and have any input on that? I still have the 03 wheel on there behind the 99 timing cover. Want to be sure before all accessories are bolted down
Mensan
http://covers.openlibrary.org/b/id/2084272-L.jpg Another weak link in the 4.6 is the factory trigger wheel for the electronic crank pickup. This powdered metal beauty is sandwiched between the harmonic balancer and the crank gear. It often fractures around the hub, causing the wheel to move a few degrees fore and aft. Fortunately, Accufab produces a billet version (Part number CTS) with a generous radius in the hub area. Every 4.6 we build receives one of these wheels. In 2000, Ford changed the wheel to a stamped design, as part of a revised timing cover, and the new design is no longer prone to failure, but it will not retrofit to the '99 and earlier models.
