Holy shit MCE 2k5 codecs

Okay so I build a Media PC out of old parts . I installed Windows XP media center 2005 sp2. Now I love the OS other than media center problems.

 

I have a fuck-ton of media, which is why i wanted media center. I chose 2k5 because of the age of the system and the compatibility issues.

 

My problem is that I can't play any of of media files (mainly .avi). Ive tried at least 10 different codecs, they work with media player but not MCE.

 

My main question is has anyone else used MCE2k5 and what codecs have you used?

I just use windows 7 with MC built in. Look up shark codecs

I use Win7 with the Combined Community Codec Pack

Yet to find anything I can't play.

Win 7 with CCCP as above, or Shark007's codec packages are both great. Shark offers better .mkv support, IMO.
