Mojoe
Ruger 10/22's are pretty reasonable and there are a ton if options with them. My mom and dad got me one 20 years ago. This year my dad and I put a tactical conversion on it and it was a lot of fun. I don't recall them being that expensive. I wanna say $150ish. Well worth it. I'll keep an eye out for you. Otis Nice
+ 1 for 10/22. I had a Mossberg bolt action. http://www.frontierfirearms.ca/images/mossberg37030.jpg Fun. Inexpensive. Easy to learn on. Easy to learn about care/cleaning. Not easy to unload a 10 round mag in seconds.

atomicfusion1647545515
I bought my kid a S&W AR15 22 for his first gun. I wanted something that he would use for years to come and it will be fun for you to shoot too. I know Vances has a Mossberg version for like $229. Mace1647545504
Just came from Vances and they had the ar15-22 for 399, a bit more than I want to spend. But they did have the tactical plinkster there for 229(I think) mace
