So the girlfriend has a 2003 chevy cavilier. its listed as a bi-fuel motor. does that mean that she can just pull up to the pump and start putting e85 in it? does anything special need to be done before switching to e85? is it hard on the motor to switch back and forth a lot?

That is a list of Alternative Fuel Vehicles. Under the column Fuel Type it doesn't list anything in front of the Cavalier. It seems to list E85FFV in front of compatible cars. I would guess it is a alternative fuel car because from 1999-2004 you could get a bi-fuel model that used CNG or gasoline.

ecotec did not allow for e85 till 09

 

LE9

The LE9 is an E85 compatible version of the 2.4 L—2,384 cc (145.5 cu in)—LE5 Ecotec. Bore and stroke are 88 mm (3.5 in) and 98 mm (3.9 in) and has a compression ratio of 10.4:1, the same as the LE5.
