Antimatter belt around Earth discovered

I'm pretty sure I'm wrong on my understanding of physics, but how can anti-matter be there without interacting with regular matter and creating a huge release of energy?

Not enough to be significant, there isn't matter around the antimatter here. It says they basically turn into a flash of light if they hit the atmosphere.

The magnetic field around the earth is shaped like a bunch of donuts, all one within another like Russian nesting dolls. The antiprotons are trapped between the donuts, essentially bottled up. Some escape and annihilate themselves on matter in the atmosphere, but apparently a lot stays trapped. And since these bands reach WAY beyond the atmosphere or even the orbits of all the space junk out there, there's very little matter for the antiprotons to hit.

So anything we send out to other planets pass through them and meteors pass through the layers also. I'm dumb so I don't understand the significance of this. I'm sure Apache is referring to Dan Brown's junk writing that was made into a gay Tom Hanks flick.

The point is that there is a field that we can "mine" to create the energy required for space flight at extreme speeds.

Now we need to harness dark energy to figure out how to bend spacetime so we can travel faster than light.
