GT500 Griggs Suspension

We have been swamped with projects at the shop lately. Here are a few pics of a 2010 GT500 Griggs suspension we just did for a customer. Basically the car went to Koni coil overs all the way around and the rear gets upgraded to a watts link as well as a torque arm.

Sorry I missed seeing this the other day in person. What feedback have you gotten from the customer?

I saw another Griggs "TT" customer on another site saying his late model Shelby "dead hooks" now with this approximate level of mods in (torque arm, shocks/springs, control arms (but I think sans the Watts Link).

I sometimes take that kind of stuff with a grain of salt especially when the torque arm hasn't necessarily been the first choice of drag racers the world over.

As you know I have the Watts Link itself on my list but I've been also thinking over the best way to get more traction. I was not terribly impressed with the standard UCA/LCA swap on my '07.

P.S. That *is* the stance I am looking for.

The customer is very pleased with how it well the car actually hooks up now. The car had 4.10's in it prior to installing the Griggs setup and there was virtually no first gear as it would just spin all the way through. With the Griggs setup it definitely hooked a lot better. The setup is a full heim joint setup and does transmit more noise through the interior of the car. It is not as bad as I was expecting but it is slightly noisier. This particular car is primarily a street car so next week we are going to sound deaden the entire interior. Since the suspension install we have also went back to 3.55 gears and we will also be installing a set of widened wheels and much wider tires on the back end in preparation for a much larger supercharger install in the near future. He typically leaves the car for a few days when we do work for him. If you are around next week and want to stop in early in the week, feel free to do so.

Excellente.

I see his LCAs look like they have poly bushings in them so the only thing that is all heim joints is the Watts? Any reason not to go with the poly option there too (other than the difference in $)? Maybe once you connect that meter long rumble stick to the bottom of the car, the noise from the Watts isn't really a concern? :)

The rear of the lowers does have poly bushings, but the front of the rears where it connects to the body are heim. I do not believe there is an option for poly on the front of the lower. The watts link arms and the rear shock mounts are all heim as well. There are also blocks that are mounted to the rear axle from the factory for sound absorption that get removed when in order to install the drop brackets for the control arms.

Question: So you guys did the '315' kit. I assume that moved the lower part of the shock mount inboard to create more space between the tire edge and the coil-over? How big a wheel/tire combo do you expect to fit in there?

Thanks!

We were able to fit a 325/30/19 in there with a tiny bit of modification. The rim was an 11" wide rim. Had the rim been a 10.5" I dont think any mods would have been needed. I have pics of everything. I just havent had any time to put them together and get them up.

Here are the tires the customer chose to go with. They are 325/30/19 Nitto Invo's. The tires are a tad shorter than the stockers were which will help compensate a little since we are dropping the 4.10 gears that were in it and dropping to 3.55's.

The wheels are the oem rears widened by 1.5". We ran into a bit of a fitment problem at full droop....The widest wheel recommended for the rear end is a 10.5" and these measured out to 11".

Modifying the upper coil over mount allowed us to tilt the top of the shock inboard more which gave us the necessary clearance to fit the rims.

No clearance issues with the tires at all.

From outside the car you cant tell any modifications were done or that the tires werent stock

There is alot more meat under there though

Saweet! First time I have seen anyone modify the Griggs rear setup to go larger on the rear tires. I think you are on to something there.

Sending you some email.

Still trying to figure out what to do. At a minimum, would like to get a Watts Link mounted in time for a 9/2 Mid Ohio track day.
