I don't see how it could possibly flop over-seas where people see cars as more than appliances. But I can see it flopping in the US because this car isn't big, plush, and two FUCKING tons. Let's hope the enthusiast market sees something special in this and keeps it from flopping. I just worry that with two of them in the market, they might sell well, but be considered a flop by the individual companies. I love this car and would buy one in a heartbeat if FFR wasn't making the 818. But I will say that a BRZ would be a LOT more comfortable than my 818 will be. I would've like to see them plan 4g63 running gear though, the subi power plant isn't all that bad, just personal preference. It will be really hard to beat that car dollar for dollar especially if somebody gets smart and starts a dealership of some sort locally. They could offer the car semi complete, then the purchaser would pick the finishing touches and options which would directly effect the final price obviously. The dealer would then complete the construction. Obviously the sales numbers wouldn't be sufficient to support a sole dealership but someone who already owns a performance shop or bodyshop, it could be a great extra profit item to sell. I think you might be forgetting the other side to that equation. The torque & shock load is also distributed across 2 sets of differentials and drive wheels. In this scenario, you are 50% more likely to destroy half-shafts or destroy a diff if you ever get it to hook up. I'm not sure why he's continuing to consider Jim's car also, other than loyalty towards his employee. I believe he's keeping Jim's as an option in case the other two prove impossible to build. Draco-REX Posted December 14, 2011 Report Share Posted December 14, 2011 I also worry about the strength of the Subaru transmission. But I think it'll be fine as long as not too much as asked of it. The finished car will be almost half the weight of a stock WRX and the custom rear axles should be beefier than the stock WRX axles. We'll see about gears. Either way, I'm putting hardened gears in mine, but I haven't decided which ratios to go with. The lighter weight might make the 5mt stock ratios actually preferable in an AutoX environment. On the Plus side of things, it'll have dual wishbone front suspension, multilink rear, and coilovers standard. The finished car will be about the size of a Miata, but with a longer wheelbase, slightly wider track width, noticeably less weight, and potentially MUCH more power.
