extended warranty ?

Ok, so i got around to taking my bonneville into the shop to have a ticking noise checked out that were pretty sure is coming from the transmission.

Before we took it in, my dad had reminded me that i had a 5 year/ 100000 mile warrany on the car, but not sure who it was through. I called the dealership i got the car at and was simply told it was still good and that they were backed up on tranny work, but that the warranty was good at any GM dealership. I made a few calls to a few dealerships to make sure it was true, but not one other dealership showed any kind of warranty for my car.

Just to make sure of things, i took the car into the original dealer anyway. upon getting there and talking to the service writers (2 of which could not find a warranty either), we find out it is through a company called autolife.

Now ive never really heard of them, but the service guy said that they are picky, but they do seem to cover what they are supposed to. That seems good and all, except that fact that they more than likely still have to tear into the tranny to figure out what is up and if for some reason they decide not to cover it, im out all the money.

has anyone here ever used this company before, and how did it turn out? or what would be my best options do you think?

Pretty much any aftermarket warranty there is an 800 number to call and as long as it is a certified service center the work will be covered. Now some are more picky then others and try to dodge the bullet of paying out on things but that's a fight you'll have to make when/if needed.

I'd go ahead and get the work done at the Dealer you purchased the warranty from, If the warranty company gives you any shit bitch to the Dealership, they should have significant influence in the matter as they are they ones constantly selling / marketing the aftermarket warranty's products / services. (hope that made sense)

Do NOT "just get the work done". I see claims denied all day, because the repairs were done without proir authorization. Read your contract, or if your lazy, call the 800 number. See if its covered, and go from there. I do not deal with autolife in particular, but I have a feeling it is very similar to the contracts I see all day.

Yea sorry, I meant if you find your repair is covered get the work done at the dealership in which you purchased the warranty from, they should have significant leverage over the warranty company should an issue arise, at least thats what happened in my case.

I would also suggest getting prior approval. You need that paper trail. I would get everything in writing from whoever, and then you can be (more) confident in not paying out of your pocket (except if there is a deductible). I have been reading up on my own aftermarket warranty, and aside from a 200 dollar deductible, it can read pretty vague!
