The place I'm looking at using uses Cerakote H which is the low heat bake method. I'm looking into getting cerakote on my K9 that I purchased. I want to go with a grey and black two tone. I'm wondering if anyone has any info on how it turned out and how it's held up. Was it worth the cost or would you have rather gone another route? Patterson Posted January 9, 2013 Report Share Posted January 9, 2013 It's hit or miss. It has a very short Shelf Life, and has to be constantly mixed. When it's new and a proper gun is used it works awesome. If it sits around any amount if time you may as well spray cheap paint your parts. That being said when I bought it I always bought the minimum, and used as much as possible in sitting. If you adhere to the prep instructions, but only as much as you need you'll be fine. Surface prep is different depending on material but here is their prep page http://www.houtsenterprises.net/dur_easy.html I did heat it up before I sprayed the first coat but just did a little sanding and degreasing no blasting. This is what I'm wondering. I honestly don't trust myself to do it and have a good end result so I got a hold of Performance Powdercoating today and got price quotes. It does seem a little expensive but I've heard if done correctly with Cerakote H, which is what they use, the finish holds up as tough as nails. I was a little liberal on taping off a section of frame rail and had to end up breaking out the dremel and a sand wheel bc I was getting nowhere by hand. I know someone who got some car parts done by them. I also heard of one person that got their handgun done and it turned out looking great, but the pictures on their site aren't any good at all. I don't see anything about their warranty service and I didn't remember to ask when I called. The site above is 275 for everything or buy 3 get 1 free. They have lifetime warranty to the original owner. I'm going to see how it turns out on my K9 since I didn't pay much for it.
